Anette Eriksson, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi there, I'm Anette! I'm a New York State-Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master's in Social Work from Fordham University and postgraduate training in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), a cognitive-behavioral approach. As my license is in New York, I only work with clients who are in New York State. All sessions are virtual. **My approach** The REBT/CBT approach to therapy that I use is versatile in that it is not geared toward specific persons, careers, or situations. I help my clients work towards emotional change, or rather emotional balance, so they may move forward in their lives and become better problem solvers. **My focus** The typical clients in my practice are challenged by anxiety, depression, relationships, career, and self-esteem/self-worth related problem situations. **My communication style** My approach is collaborative and interactive, and sessions tend to have a conversational feel. I encourage clients to work on current problems while simultaneously exploring historical patterns. I ask questions and pose theories to help initiate thoughts and dialogue and to better understand clients' challenges. **My journey to mental healthcare** I have been interested in, and fascinated by, human behaviors and functions for as long as I can remember. As a teen and young adult, I was the friend who loved listening to others' stories and problems and trying to piece together explanations and solutions. Theatre and film became a big passion of mine early on, which I pursued both as a hobby and profession. I now see the link between my passion for theatre and film and my interest in human behavior. I studied and analyzed characters' problem situations much like I did with my friends. Once I became a therapist, I recognized these connections and was thrilled to finally land in a career I love-where work doesn't feel like work.
