NY
Hi there, I'm Aurora! My name is Aurora McMillen. I am a licensed clinical social worker and certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Nazareth University and my Bachelor's from Keuka College. My primary therapy focuses include mood disorders, personality disorders, trauma, and sex therapy. My approach I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). My focus I primarily work with adults and couples, treating anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma-related disorders. My communication style In sessions, I actively listen and show empathy. I am casual but can be structured and firm when needed to provide guidance. My journey to mental healthcare I enjoy working with people and providing space for them. Initially unsure of my path, I found my direction working in billing for a chemical dependency outpatient program. This experience allowed me to complete my undergraduate internship and helped me choose my field and specialty for graduate school. Social work has taught me patience, empathy, and self-reflection, helping me be present professionally and personally. My goals for you We will mutually establish SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) goals in treatment planning. Clients may also have general goals like using sessions for processing. Therapy can be life-changing with the right tools and guidance. My first session with you In our first session, we will review confidentiality limits, discuss expectations, gather background information, identify the main problem, and begin exploring treatment goals.
