Getting to know Brett Terrien

I provide both individual and couples psychotherapy via Zoom for adults and college-age students residing in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. I have been a licensed psychotherapist in practice for more than 20 years. I hold a Master's in Applied Psychology from New York University and a Bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. My niche is working with both LGBTQI+ and straight individuals and couples, persons in polyamorous relationships, BDSM and fetish communities, visual and performing artists (professionals, as well as students from prestigious Boston institutions such as Boston Conservatory/Berklee, New England Conservatory, and Emerson College), and traditional and holistic medical providers. Additionally, I am well versed and experienced in working with sex workers, providers, escorts, and adult film entertainers, both gay and straight. I provide a safe and open space to discuss and process related issues that most feel unavailable to explore without judgment. My area of expertise is helping clients with difficulties in relationships. Such difficulties include finding and sustaining healthy intimacy, healing from a painful breakup or divorce, recovering from major loss, and growing up in difficult circumstances. I am particularly suited to those who spend a great deal of time in their head, feel disconnected from their feelings, and would now like to develop a greater awareness of their emotional world.

Brett is warm, professional and very attuned in our sessions. We connected easily and I felt like he was very present with me in helping me achieve my goals for therapy...highly recommend!
I've been seeing Brett for a couple of months and I like him more than any therapist I've ever had. He really helps me with my problems. He truly cares and also provides gentle humor. I look forward to our telehealth sessions every week.
Mr. Terrien is a great therapist. I have seen him on and off for few years now and he as been tremendously helpful in terms of helping me navigate through a few major life transitions. I always know he has my back and is genuinely rooting for me. He is a kind, patient listener and allows me the space to talk through whatever is on my mind.
Brett is a delight, he’s a wealth of sound, reliable counsel to me. Wherever I am on the map of mood-disorderedness, he’s usually able to navigate me to some kind of safe passage. He’s receptive and accommodating with a gentle finesse that serves to pacify and course-correct rather than to condemn or enable. He’s a splendid listener, he’s dedicated, he’s reliable, and he’s never let me down.
I have been working with Brett for a few sessions. As a gay man, I have found the sessions to be helpful as I work towards some personal goals.
Brett made me feel at ease immediately when we met. His calm assured presence helped me relax and engage. I find him to be thoughtful, patient, and very helpful. Would definitely recommend to other patients considering therapy.
Brett is a great therapist who was a helpful, calming presence in my life, especially when I was going through a particularly difficult time after a breakup. I highly recommend Brett—he’s wonderful!
