“Brian is not only great at listening, but also a professional at understanding and giving you the tools needed to solve the complex issues in your specific situation. Sure, he’ll listen to you and ask questions as therapists do, but expect to always leave the session with a great technique or tool you can take home with you and use continuously. I will be using these tools for the rest of my life. Thanks Brian!”

Getting to know Brian McCrystal
Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists.
As a young athlete, I became fascinated by how mindset could make or break my performance. That curiosity grew into a lifelong commitment to personal growth and led me to earn a Master's in Counseling. Today, I am a certified TEAM-CBT therapist, trained in the evidence-based approach developed by Dr. David Burns at Stanford. TEAM-CBT combines empathy, agenda-setting, and powerful methods to create measurable progress. I continue to receive weekly advanced training with Dr. Burns to stay at the forefront of the latest tools and techniques. My focus is on helping clients achieve the goals most meaningful to them through therapy that is structured, effective, and time-efficient.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I primarily see clients on a weekly basis. The times you see listed here are my standing weekly availability. For ongoing therapy, it’s best if your schedule can match one of these times consistently—unless you have a flexible schedule that allows you to adjust as openings arise. I appreciate your understanding.
Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and focused only on the areas that matter most to you. As a certified TEAM-CBT therapist, I use a results-oriented approach that blends warmth and empathy with proven methods. Each session is structured to track your progress and ensure you’re getting real relief—not just talking in circles. You set the goals, and together we’ll use powerful tools to help you reduce symptoms quickly, build on your strengths, and create lasting change. My aim is to help you feel supported, empowered, and confident as you move toward the life you want."
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I primarily use the TEAM-CBT model, a research-based approach designed to create lasting results. I also integrate elements of IFS and trauma-informed care, so our work can address both current challenges and deeper patterns. In sessions, we’ll track your progress, explore what may be holding you back, and focus on the concerns most important to you—whether it’s anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or self-critical thoughts. My goal is to create a
compassionate, collaborative space where you feel deeply understood, while also giving you practical tools you can start using right away. This flexible, integrative process keeps therapy supportive, and results-driven, so you can make steady progress toward meaningful change.

Brian was great. He’s patient, very chill, relatable, and not as corny as a lot of other therapists I’ve seen. His specific style/structure of therapy wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but he pointed me exactly in the right direction and was really thoughtful through the whole process. I would definitely recommend him to anyone starting out or shopping around for a new therapist!

I’ve been working with Brian for some time now, and I honestly can’t recommend him enough. He’s an incredibly attentive listener who creates a space where I feel truly heard and understood. He’s helped me navigate some deeply challenging moments, especially around relationship anxiety and decision-making, and he always holds me accountable in a kind, respectful way.
One of the things I appreciate most about Brian is his ability to reflect my thoughts back to me with clarity and eloquence. It’s like he takes the messy, tangled thoughts in my head and mirrors them back in a way that makes everything feel more grounded and manageable. He’s not only supportive and understanding, but also really great at bouncing around ideas—offering perspectives that are insightful without ever being pushy.
Overall, working with Brian has been incredibly helpful in allowing me to process my emotions, understand myself better, and move forward with more confidence.
