What should a new client know about working with you?

I plan to use communication techniques to build trust, establish rapport, and facilitate effective non-judgmental interactions. I plan to create a safe space for you to express your concerns, vent frustrations, and streamline your needs through positive self-regard. My journey into psychology began with elective classes I signed up for in high school, which piqued my interest in the hows, what’s, when’s, where’s, and why’s that people think and react the way they do. I have always believed that people can change by changing their perception about what is going on around them and their reactions to the outside world. I worked as a social worker while going through my college career, and some time after, I began to understand through the clients I have had the opportunity to work with, as well as my challenges, that thought processes mean everything in navigating the world around us. Over the past 30 years or more, I have enjoyed figuring out and changing maladaptive thoughts and actions to assist in meeting life goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that therapy is a process, not an event. With a positive therapeutic relationship, we can harness your thought patterns, problem-solving, and coping skills, and gain insight to help with meet your goals. We can change your treatment strategy as needed in order to tailor our time to assist you in finding the best approach to get what you need in life. We can focus on improving relationships, building self-esteem, or any other personal objective that you feel you need help with. Our first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I will ask you questions about your background and what brings you to therapy. We will discuss symptoms that cause you problems, and I will try to educate you on the reasoning behind your symptoms. We will develop a therapeutic plan for our time together and set some achievable goals. Hopefully, you can sit back and relax as this is your time to make your needs known the first and every meeting we have together.
