Catherine Avery, LP

Psychologist
MN
My name is Cathy Avery, and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in St. Paul, MN. I work with clients across the country via telehealth. Yes! You can receive help from the comfort of your own home! My approach I believe strongly in my client's capacity to move forward with guidance and to reconnect with their best self. Our sessions will likely include laughter as well as tears - therapy is not for the fainthearted but can be so very rewarding! My focus My focus is variable, depending on the issues you would like to address. I enjoy helping clients connect past experiences with current unhealthy thought patterns, and this can be a very powerful intervention. I also have decades of experience working with ADHD adults and children, and can provide common-sense interventions and support in this area. My communication style I am a warm and accepting person and have made my own share of mistakes in life! I am supportive and will be there for you during our sessions, listening closely and connecting issues with previous information that you provided to identify patterns. I interject humor and compassion into the sessions. My journey to mental healthcare I have always been a person in whom others confide. When I stumbled into the field of clinical psychology in college, I couldn't believe that a field existed that fit my personality so closely! I have been in the field for 35 years now and find delight and meaning in the therapeutic process. My goals for you I believe that the answers lie within you already. We will work as a team to find those answers. This process is exciting and very rewarding. My first session with you I will want to know what brought you into therapy and what your most pressing issues are. I will design your therapeutic journey to meet these needs. I see myself as a fellow traveler and supportive guide, while viewing you as the expert in who you are. Although that may not be clear to you initially, it will evolve through our work together
