Getting to know Dr. Courtney Breiner

Hi! I'm Courtney. I'm a licensed psychologist nearly a decade of experience in treating and researching anxiety and eating disorders in kids and adolescents. I use evidence-based approaches which just means that scientists have tested them and found that they work well! In session, I work individually with kids as well as with kids and their parents together to make sure everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a behavioral therapist which means that I want to make sure that you and your child have the skills needed to overcome any challenges. Before we get into any practice, though, I make sure to get to know families and learn about what is important to each child. I make sure treatment is values-based - meaning everything we do is in line with getting kids to where they want to be! I also use a lot of humor.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I start by learning quite a bit about what's been going on and making a map of how everything has been working together to create challenges. I then use a cognitive-behavior model, where we talk about how our emotions are affected by our thoughts and behaviors. The goal of doing this is to find spots to intervene. Each session will focus on chipping away at your overarching goal.
