Getting to know Courtney Daniels

Hi, I’m Courtney! I am an NYC-based Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from City University of New York, Brooklyn College. I specialize in working with teens and adults struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, chronic dieting, body shame, and those seeking to break free from diet culture. I have spent my career supporting individuals working to make peace with their bodies and food. Before starting my private practice, I worked at Columbus Park, an eating disorder treatment center in Manhattan. I also served as a Primary Coach at Eating Disorder Recovery Specialists (EDRS), providing meal support and skills coaching to those in recovery. I am a Certified Body Trust® Provider and practice from a trauma-informed, social justice-oriented, Health at Every Size (HAES)® framework. I am fat-positive, anti-diet, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and center lived experience. As a white, queer, straight-sized, financially secure, Jewish, cisgender woman, I recognize my privileges and constantly examine how they show up personally and professionally. My passion comes from my own experience recovering from an eating disorder and witnessing the harm caused by diet culture. I understand that healing your relationship with food and your body in a world that normalizes disordered behaviors and promotes thinness is extremely challenging, especially if you live in a marginalized body. I am not here to help you conform to societal standards but to find freedom and liberation from their constraints. My style is warm, compassionate, and genuine. I don’t believe in cold, hierarchical therapeutic spaces—I believe in collaboration, transparency, and authenticity. I bring my full humanity to each relationship. I feel lucky to do this work and to witness the resilient stories of the clients I work alongside. I look forward to getting to know you!

Courtney is without doubt the best therapist I have had the pleasure of working with. She takes a compassionate, understanding, and empowering approach -- all qualities that are invaluable in a therapist. Courtney is so kind and supportive and invested in her clients. We have been working together for several months one-on-one and for over a year in therapist-led groups. I can not recommend her highly enough!
I highly recommend reaching out to Coutney to anyone who is searching for healing. She creates a supportive and warm space where you can feel safe and empowered to share your whole self. I was scared to start coming to therapy and to feel vulnerable, but I instantly felt at ease with Courtney. Through our irreplaceable teamwork, I have found recovery from my eating disorder and trauma. I am now living a life more in line with my values and goals. Courtney is truly the best of the best!
