“I first met David through friends on social media. When I needed some one-on-one advice concerning family issues and communication, I contacted David for private sessions. Due to budgetary restrictions, I met with him for a limited time, once a week for 2 months. Even in that short time, it was a tremendous help to me, being supplied with commonsense tools for communicating effectively. We touched on Zen which I find fascinating and hope to pursue further. David has an easygoing nature that is contagious.”

Getting to know David B. Alexander

Would you like to improve your sense of well-being, clarity, and purpose, and improve relationships? I bring in gestalt therapy, existential therapy, long-term Zen studies and teaching, and deep life experience to help guide you. And with decades of work with organizations, I also work with executives, leaders, and business owners to find more fulfillment in personal life and more success in the workplace. *** Accepting insurance that provides out-of-network coverage (e.g., PPO and POS plans); also accepting self-pay. I cannot work with Medicaid nor with most Medicare and ACA insurance plans. *** I am a caring, skilled psychotherapist, dedicated to helping you accomplish your goals of well-being through our work together. By expanding your insight and connecting to your own energy, you can reduce stress, improve harmony of mind and body, and reach your goals. Clients of all ethnicities, races, ages, and sexual orientations are welcome and treated with respect and dignity. *************** By truly understanding yourself and appreciating your own deep value as a human being, you can enjoy clarity, inspiration, and connection with others. For those whose priority is improving and reaching goals in the workplace, I also offer executive and organizational therapy to examine daily choices and strategies toward achieving those important goals. My focus is on personal awareness and communication with others, which are central to success in all aspects of life. I have been practicing and teaching healing and energy practices using multiple modalities since 1971, including Zen meditation, Tai Chi Chuan, coaching, and psychotherapy. I hold an Advanced Certificate in Gestalt Therapy and Psychoanalysis from Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy. All of these emphasize deep connection with oneself and others, and the ability to express that connection in daily life. Benefit from the fruits of these practices to develop your own clear insight and energy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Ultimate healing occurs through empathic connection between client and therapist, and through increased awareness in the client. The increased awareness leads to a more beneficial perception of the world and oneself, experienced as a more compassionate and alive sense of each moment. Zen Buddhism is a fountainhead of profound insight, and my 55 years of engagement in Zen practice is of great help to your knowing and accepting yourself, fully, with joy and with clarity, while changing habits that are not helpful for your well-being and for the well-being of those in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I listen carefully, and start very quickly to interact and stimulate awareness in areas that show latent emotionality and potential for growth. As trust develops, we speak more and more openly and connect on the issues that have the most impact for the client. Clients report feeling seen and heard, and feeling relief of anxiety, depression, and phobias as their true needs and experiences are being heard and responded to, and as ideas that interfere with enjoying each moment are addressed in a way that can be processed and understood by the client.

In-network insurances

David B. Alexander, LP, MA is not in-network with any insurances

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $200 for 45 minutes
Ongoing session: $200 for 45 minutes

More information on payments and coverage

I provide the paid invoice / receipt needed to file out-of-network for insurance providers that offer that coverage. Those are generally PPO plans, not HMOs or EPOs. Self-pay without using insurance of course is also valid. Most ACA / Obamacare plans do not have out-of-network, but a few do. I have seen a few Medicare clients whose secondary insurance provided benefits, but you would need to determine whether you will get that reimbursement.

David is organized when it comes to appointments and is really effective when it comes to talk therapy . It is a safe space during sessions . I highly recommend .
Could not have asked for a better experience. Dr Alexander has made it easy to navigate a difficult time in my life. Very happy with my journey so far, would definitely recommend.
David provided exactly the type of service I was looking for. I just needed to talk to someone who was willing to listen. His soft tone and gentle approach allowed our sessions to move smoothly and often times, too quickly. In person sessions felt like an afternoon in your living room, and the ability to web session meant you could actually be, in your living room. Appointments were easy and very rarely did conflicts arise. Sessions always started on time and there was never an overlap with another patient. When I felt I was in the right place to end our sessions, the reaction was nothing but positive and encouraging. The door was left open for any future needs.
These were on-going sessions and David was very helpful in assisting me in working out some important issues with my partner. He's a very good listener, but he also exercised control where it was needed. He's very good at cutting right to the point and he tries to give real solutions and then he follows up to see what worked and what didn't. He also works with compassion and humor so the whole experience was convivial, pleasant, and productive. I highly recommend him as a therapist and sympathetic human being.
David has helped our relationship immensely. He’s kind and caring and listens well. His emphasis is on compassion and we are very glad we have him in our corner. It’s like taking a master class in communication and awareness.
Really smart, really friendly. Actually listens to you, and allows you to think and feel without telling you how to think and feel.
