“I had such an amazing first session with Dr. Cassidy-Charron. I very much appreciate that she calls the first session a consultation so that both of us can evaluate without pressure. I have been to my share of therapists in my life and find it difficult to connect. After many many years with a therapist I loved (who retired four years ago) I have been searching on and off for those four years. Like so many, the tough times we are living in has brought up a lot for me - as well as other issues that needed to be addressed. Dr. Cassidy-Charron managed to ask the right questions to have me open up in a way I was not expecting. She really listens and pays attention, (which I imagine, is why she was able to ask the right questions). I have had two sessions with her and I feel we are on a great path. I feel very grateful to have found her - I think she is pretty fabulous. ”

Getting to know Dr. Deborah Cassidy-Charron

Dr. Deborah Cassidy-Charron is a compassionate and highly experienced clinical psychologist who has honed her expertise in a variety of settings over the past 30 years, yielding considerable depth and breadth to her work with a broad range of difficulties in living, such as relationship issues, career difficulties, parenting challenges, and related symptoms of depression and anxiety. Her early career training at Teacher's College led to an 8-year-long position as an inpatient rehabilitation counselor in a NYC hospital, which launched her into highly challenging and prestigious training placements (NYC's Postgraduate Center, Bronx Children's Psychiatric Center, Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, NYC) while completing her later doctoral studies. Over the past several years in Westchester, Dr. Cassidy-Charron has enjoyed a range of professional activities, including working with older adults and their families, teaching, working in her private practice, and receiving a 4-year advanced certification in Psychoanalysis. She works from a relational model, while integrating supportive approaches from her earlier training. She currently works through telehealth with ages 25+ in her private practice in Armonk, NY. ***ZocDoc appointment must be confirmed by Dr. Cassidy-Charron prior to meeting via brief telephone consultation***. What should a new client know about working with you?

Hello and welcome to my practice! My particular area in the field, which I will expand on below, is both an art and a science. What that means to me is every therapist is as unique as every client, which is why I call our first few meetings "consultations"; I believe this characterization properly captures the spirit of collaborative assessment of what it would be like to work together, with a "no fault" policy if the fit isn't quite right. In terms of my philosophy and methodology, my approach to psychotherapy is informed by my early work as a rehabilitation counselor, my education as a psychologist and my training as a contemporary analyst (a somewhat unusual combination that gives me a wide and flexible range of skills to draw on). I have studied (and continue to study) the "nuts and bolts" of human behavior and had actively applied that understanding in my work as a rehabilitation counselor to help people utilize specific tools and understandings to become their best selves. My overall guiding principle as a rehabilitation counselor was "empowerment"through understanding, knowledge of specific principles and always, respect for the process of growing and becoming. Those guideposts are carried through in my current work as a relational analyst. Relational analysts are iconically collaborators in treatment. For example, if you were to feel anxious about something in session, my participation is flexibly on the table for inspection. This is important for many reasons and I'd be glad to discuss in more detail when we meet.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I trust your mind's ability to present material relevant to your healing and will encourage you to be as open and curious as possible. I follow your train of thought during the session, listening closely for the seemingly random connections your mind makes - these are often rich areas, like dreams, for meaningful understanding. Sometimes, I find it helpful to provide psychoeducation in order to demystify the mind. For example, a person may be befuddled and/or feeling self-critical by a present day reaction to a situation. Through a detailed inquiry, I am often able to identify a "trigger" to an earlier time that was likely overwhelming. I would further explain how these situations become linked in the brain, how to recognize when this is happening, and uncrystalize encapsulated experiences that are affecting you today.

More information on payments and coverage

If you have Out-Of-Network benefits in your insurance plan, you may be reimbursed up to 80% of my fees after your deductible for the year has been fulfilled. In addition, I work with a company called Advekit that will help you reduce our out-of-pocket expense. They do this by liaising with your insurance company. First, Advekit will inform you of particular coverage, including the yearly deductible amount. Then, they will file the psychotherapy claims quickly to fulfill deductible obligation efficiently. The best part (in my opinion) is once your deductible is paid down, they will only charge you for each session with me what you would owe AFTER insurance reimbursement. They front the full payment to me and they wait for reimbursement from your insurance company! Why hasn't anyone thought of this sooner!? Its a game changer for many of my clients! You are welcome to find my profile on Advekit to learn more.

Deborah has helped me significantly the past year. For some time I thought it would be helpful to starting seeing a therapist to work through some of my anxieties and past experiences, but it took a crisis situation to actively seek someone out and I was given Deborah's name. She has not only helped me navigate the situation I was facing, but has helped me work through other facets of my life that I thought I could handle by myself but have found it extremely helpful to talk through with someone else. Deborah approaches situations rationally and helps you look at things in a different light. She has encouraged me to stretch outside of my comfort zones and become my best advocate. I am so thankful for all she has helped me with and look forward to continuing to work with her in the future.
I have been seeing Deborah for a while now and have found her patient, helpful, and thoughtful. She has helped me to work through things in my life that have been troubling me for years. She has helped with my decision making, my anger, anxiety, my relationship etc. I would recommend her to anyone that is looking to make real progress with whatever mental health struggles they might be having.
I have been working with Deborah for approximately 3 years. Throughout this time Deborah has been consistently reliable, dependable, and flexible in regards to scheduling, fees, and availability. Deborah has helped me navigate through the lowest points and difficulties within my self, my relationships and my career and has helped me through many conflicts within myself to achieve long lasting change. Deborah’s help and support means the world to me and I feel extremely lucky and grateful for everything she has helped me overcome and accomplish. She has a good sense of humor too!
Dr. Charron has worked with my 96 year old mother for several years. I am always grateful for how she treats my mom, accompanying her on her journey into dementia with sensitivity and compassion. She always looks beneath the surface to connect with my mother as a unique individual, recognizing her dignity, her sense of humor, and her "triggers." She communicates with me, protecting my mother's anonymity, and respecting always her need for autonomy. Dr. Charron is willing to ask the tough questions that really help my mom as her needs change. She is never afraid to address her concerns, and gives practical advice on how best to solve problems, and cope with my own fears as well. She understands the aging process, and helps me to best appreciate and help my mother every step of the way, always remembering the importance of humor and perspective.
