Your teenager may be struggling with things they don't know how to say out loud, or things they've decided not to say to you. School pressure, family conflict, self-harm, or a persistent sense that something is wrong. You're worried, and you're looking for someone you can trust with them. I work with adolescents navigating these kinds of challenges using a relational, depth-oriented approach. Rather than focusing primarily on skills or strategies, I try to understand what's underneath: what's driving the behavior, the withdrawal, the distress. Teenagers often know something is wrong before they can articulate it, and therapy can be a place where that gets put into words. My work with teens is confidential. I give adolescents a space that is genuinely their own, where they can speak freely and be fully themselves. That privacy is part of what makes the work possible. At the same time, I meet with parents monthly to keep you informed and connected to the process, and I'm transparent with your teen about when those meetings happen. Before becoming a therapist, I practiced corporate law. I mention this not because it's clinically relevant to teen work, but because it shaped how I think about trust, pressure, and performance, themes that show up constantly in adolescent therapy. I offer a free consultation to answer questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. Happy with this or any further tweaks?

Getting to know Doriel Jacov

What should a new client know about working with you?

If your teenager has never been to therapy before, or has had experiences that didn't feel helpful, it's worth knowing that this kind of work looks different from what they might expect. There are no worksheets, no homework assignments, and no agenda they need to prepare for. Sessions are collaborative and follow your teen's lead. Some teenagers arrive ready to talk. Others need time to settle in and build trust before the work really begins. Both are okay. The early sessions are as much about building a real relationship as they are about exploring content, and that relationship is what makes everything else possible. I want teenagers to feel that therapy is genuinely for them, not a place where information gets reported back to parents or where they're being evaluated. That sense of safety is what allows real conversations to happen.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with a free consultation, usually 15 to 20 minutes, where you can share what's bringing your teen to therapy, ask questions about how I work, and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. If we move forward, the first few sessions are a chance for your teenager and me to get to know each other. I'll ask about their experience, what's been hard, and what they're hoping might be different. This early period matters. Teenagers often arrive guarded, and there's no rushing the process of building trust. Ongoing sessions are 45 minutes and typically weekly. I meet with parents monthly to share general impressions and keep you connected to the process, without compromising your teen's confidentiality. I'll always let your teen know in advance when a parent meeting is happening and give them a chance to share anything they'd want me to know beforehand. Progress in adolescent therapy isn't always visible right away. Sometimes things feel harder before they feel better. I check in regularly about how the work is going and welcome feedback from both teens and parents along the way.

Many clients with PPO plans receive partial reimbursement this way, and it is worth contacting your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before we begin. Individual therapy sessions are $250. If you need to cancel or reschedule, I ask for at least 48 hours notice. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged the full session fee.
