What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Ollen takes a collaborative approach to working with clients. She has expertise in depression, anxiety, stress/trauma/PTSD, life transitions, grief/loss, and identity concerns/stressors related to various aspects of identity (including LGBTQ clients, people who are donor-conceived, those with experience in foster care/adoption). She uses a variety of evidence-based interventions (in other words, research supported therapies) for individual, family, and couples therapy, as well as parent coaching. I am also trained in ketamine assisted psychotherapy and can offer support for clients seeking psychedelic assisted therapies.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Dr. Ollen asks new clients to fill out an (optional) online intake form, to help focus the first intake session. After 1-2 intake sessions, Dr. Ollen will provide a "feedback" session where she provides her clinical impressions, diagnostic impression, and treatment recommendations (in other words, what seems to be going on, and what she thinks would be helpful in terms of treatment and what that therapy would look like). At this point, clients can decide whether they'd like to proceed or not.

In-network insurances

Dr. Elizabeth Ollen is not in-network with any insurances

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

More information on payments and coverage

I do not contract directly with insurance companies, but instead provide a superbill. A superbill is a receipt that shows the amount that you paid directly for the services (plus additional details like my national provider ID number, billable diagnostic codes, etc.) Then your insurance company will directly reimburse you a portion of the cost. Payment for services is made by the client directly to the provider via credit card or Venmo at the end of each month; then insurance may reimburse you directly a percentage of the session cost (usually by mailing a check). Many PPO plans will provide some reimbursement for "out-of-network providers" Insurance providers typically reimburse 50-80% of session costs, but it could be more or less than this, depending on the insurance. Insurance plan coverage varies widely, so please check with your provider for specific coverage and rates of reimbursement (see recommended questions below). If you choose to seek reimbursement, you submit a "superbill" that lists a diagnosis and other necessary information. Invoices and superbills will be provided via email at the end of each month following receipt of payment. Dr. Ollen often is listed as "in network" for some insurance through her full time job at the UCLA Medical Center (where she des not directly see clients); these services would be rendered through her private practice, which is not affiliated with UCLA, which is important to communicate when calling your insurance company. Helpful questions to ask your insurance company: (1) Do I have mental health coverage? (2) What % of my bill will be covered for services obtained by an out-of-network provider? (3) How many session would be covered for services obtained by an out-of-network provider? (4) How many sessions will be covered per calendar year? (5) What is my deductible and has it been met?
