In the midst of ongoing social, political, and personal stressors, many people find themselves carrying more than they were ever meant to hold alone. As a Black male therapist in NYC, I provide trauma-informed online therapy to adults across New York State. I specialize in working with people who are often marginalized or navigating identity-related stress, including Black men, people of color, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ folx, and young adults. My clients often come to therapy seeking clarity, relief from emotional overwhelm, and a deeper sense of agency in their lives.

Getting to know Gary Dillon

Feeling frustrated, stuck, or unfulfilled in life or relationships? You’re not alone.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often describe me as warm, genuine, empathic, and attuned. My approach is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strength-based. While our work is grounded in the present, we also explore past experiences and relationships to better understand emotional patterns, internalized messages, and survival strategies that may no longer be serving you. I integrate relational and evidence-based approaches to help you build insight, emotional resilience, and practical tools for change. My goal is to support you in reconnecting with your strengths and using them to create a life that feels more aligned and fulfilling.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is not a place where you need to be perfect or have everything figured out. It’s one of the few spaces where you are encouraged to be real, unfiltered, and unapologetically yourself. There is no need to hide out of shame or minimize your experiences here. Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, and the relationship truly matters. I offer a free consultation so we can see if working together feels like a good fit. If it does, great. If not, I’m happy to help point you toward other resources. You deserve support that feels affirming, grounded, and human.
