Getting to know Gladys Morrar

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. To save time during your visit, please fill out the patient registration forms after booking your appointment. Thank you. Through carefully guided exploration, our clients uncover behavioral patterns that keep them from the happiness they desire by learning strategies for managing stress, working through loss, creating loving, productive relationships, finding spiritual fulfillment, and living more intentional, mindful lives. We prefer to take an eclectic approach with our clients, as each of them is different and will need different types of therapy. We like to challenge our clients while maintaining their trust as we provide them with honest advice. Super nice. Asked all the right questions but I was hoping for a slow climb since I’m new. But I would definitely recommend.

Gladys Morrar is a very good therapist. She has helped me so much. I would highly recommend her as a therapist. She is kind and compassionate.
I have been through many therapists before Gladys and I have to say she is the absolute best! I moved out of state and I still kept her as my therapist
Gladys is kind, knowledgeable, and professional.I have been a patient of hers for over 7 years .I check in with her every couple of weeks. She is genuinely caring and willing to listen to my thoughts and concerns. I feel comfortable and relaxed in our sessions , which is quite important. Would highly recommend.
Gladys was very easy to open up to and she made me feel very comfortable. The environment has a home feeling to it as well so you are easily relaxed. I would definitely recommend her.

I visited Dr. Morrar for two months seeking guidance in coping with ADHD and would recommend her to anyone with it or related disorders. I could communicate my issues to her in a trusting, open, and supportive environment. She showed great empathy and adeptness in forming connections between my struggles, comparable experiences of hers, and constructive responses. She would suggest healthy behavioral changes and practices without condescending to me and helped me set reasonable goals for myself. At about 15 min by bus from the ferry, or a <5 min walk east from Victory and Clove, her location is convenient for Staten. Parking, while on-street, is reliably available. Dr. Morrar is also an adaptable rescheduler if/when need be, inside or outside the office. She responds reasonably quickly to texts and is patient with those who aren't quite as such. No credit though, cash only.

Very polite.

She cares. That's probably the best thing I can say about any therapist. The second best thing I could say also happens to be true. She's effective. She got through when I couldn't after years of trying and about to shatter from the strain. There is one caveat though. She likes to share about herself to help connect. Sometimes she enjoys sharing a little too much and shares a bit over the line. However if you stay focused then she will stay focused.
Very good!!!

I found Morrar to be an absolutely terrible and lazy therapist. First off, she misrepresented herself. I had originally decided to book with her because In her personal statement on this site, she claims "We prefer to take an eclectic approach with our clients as each of them are different and will need different types of therapy." And yet when I asked for something other than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (as I know from experience that does not work for me), she said that is the only type of therapy that she does. So future clients looking for "an eclectic approach" should be warned that her statement is false. Secondly, she did very little in terms of "therapy". Referring back to her personal statement, she claims to provide "carefully guided exploration" However, within minutes of me sitting down, she already decided what I needed to do and began shoving CBT reading materials at me (again, despite me saying I'm already familiar with CBT and it doesn't work for me). If I wanted something to read, I would've saved the copay and the waste of time and just looked it up online from the comfort of my home. It seems she doesn't even know how to properly conduct CBT and relies heavily on handouts. Last of all, and the most insulting thing in my opinion, she straight up told me "I can't help you" and then almost in the next breath asked if I wanted to schedule another appointment with her. I left my appointment completely disgusted. I do not recommend Morrar at all, and should have heeded the review of the LMSW that had the appointment with her on June 16. Do not be lured in by positive reviews from over a year ago. Save your time and copay for a therapist that is worthwhile.
I was disappointed to discover that Ms. Morrar was very unprofessional. As an LMSW myself I felt the need to share my experience with those who may be looking into Ms. Morrar a new therapist. She spoke with me more as an untrained person would in the way she responded to what I said and how she asked questions (i.e. "really?!", "I don't know how that's gonna work out" (referring to my relationship), "were you molested as a child?" - yes, she straight up asked me that bluntly during my 1st visit). She was also distracted many times during our appointment which I found rude and highly unprofessional as a counselor.
I would recommend Ms. Morrar.

Gladys was very kind and down to earth. She made me feel very comfortable, although I was initially worried about my encounter with a new person to speak to about my issues and problems in my life. I enjoyed speaking with her and found her techniques that she provided useful. I look forward to my next appointment with her.
I did not have to wait to see her I was taken in at the time of my appointment. I immediately felt comfortable with her. She seemed genuinely concerned about my issues. I appreciated that she informed me right away that she does not fill out social security forms for her patients and since I have a pending social security case I am unable to continue seeing her. Otherwise I would be happy to continue seeing her because I felt she would be able to help me with my many issues. Highly recommended if you do not have a social security case. A+

She was very nice. The wait time was really under 30 minutes. I have another appointment next Wednesday. She even texted me to remind me and to confirm my appointment too. Her office and waiting area was very nice and clean as well.

As good as one may expect.
I found my visit to be extremely enlightening and enriching. Dr. Morrar is very knowledgable as well as professional in her sessions.
My daughter's visit are always helpful and she benefits from all her session. I am satisfied with the results and progress my daughter has made since we have started over two years ago.
Absolutely wonderful. She made me comfortable to talk to her. She asked questions which was great because I would not know where to start. She gave me guidelines and activities to do that I will share with her during my next appointment.
