Dr. Gretchen Slover, LMFT, PsyD

Psychologist
CA
My name is Gretchen Slover, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a PsyD from Southern California Seminary. I explain that therapy is like a buffet I set, allowing you to choose what you would like to try. I work alongside my clients to help them make the best decisions to move forward toward their goals. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families to navigate relationships and reach their objectives. My approach I use an eclectic approach to therapy. There are no formulas or one-size-fits-all solutions because each client interaction is unique. Change occurs when we shift our thoughts about what we are experiencing and view things from a different perspective. My focus I work with clients who struggle with various thought processes that leave them feeling cornered in situations they want to change. I have extensive experience handling high-conflict relationship situations as well as life trauma. My communication style Communication and the words we choose to express ourselves are very important. For me, the most crucial component as a therapist is to listen and truly hear what a client is saying so we can work on clearly defined goals. My journey to mental healthcare After spending 30 years as a Family Law Paralegal, I decided that becoming a therapist would be a meaningful career transition. My experience and training have taught me a great deal about myself, which has enhanced my ability to work with clients. When working with clients, I consider our appointed time together a privilege to serve their needs. My goals for you It is helpful to define goals at the outset; however, sometimes clients enter therapy without knowing what they want to work on and uncover their goals over time. I walk alongside clients to help them develop those goals from their perspective. My first session with you I explain the process of therapy and interact with clients as needed to ensure they feel comfortable and informed.
