Heather Erbland, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-R) in New York State, with a Master’s in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University Waterloo Campus. I take a holistic approach to therapy and love helping clients explore ways to improve their mental health, physical health, relationships, and social functioning, while finding more meaning, passion, and purpose in life. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As a certified Yoga teacher, I also incorporate deep breathing, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques into my clinical practice. I don’t view mental health in isolation but take a big-picture approach, helping clients develop a more satisfying and rewarding life. My main areas of focus are depression and anxiety, though I have experience with a diverse range of conditions, including psychosis, Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, trauma, suicidal thoughts, and addiction. My communication style is laid back and comfortable. I strive to create a warm environment where clients feel safe, relaxed, and open. I have always loved conversations, helping others, and trying to understand what makes people tick. I’m fortunate to have found a profession that allows me to use my talents and interests to help people improve their lives. With 18 years of experience as a clinical social worker, I am comfortable working with a broad range of clients. I help clients identify specific areas in their lives where growth is possible and collaboratively develop goals that feel achievable. In our first session, before focusing on the presenting problem, I like to take a brief history to understand your background and current life—where you come from, your upbringing, how you spend your time now, and what you hope for in the future. This big-picture perspective allows us to set goals and address your current symptoms more effectively.
