Getting to know Heather Lortie

Heather Lortie is a Harvard University-trained therapist with a Master's in Human Development and a New York University-trained therapist holding a Master's in Social Work. She is the founding director of a thriving group psychotherapy practice, uncompromising in her efforts to meet the unique needs of each client. She and her team are known for blending cutting-edge innovations with proven best practices that lead to deep and long-lasting change. If you are looking to shake up old patterns, strengthen your relationships, transform your fears, and expand your life, we are here for you. We are a values-based community, affirming of all people and aware of the layers of complexity and healing potential embedded in modern life. Heather and her team hold post-graduate training in somatic, attachment-based, and psychodynamic therapies, as well as psychedelic-assisted therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Detail oriented, creative and focused on real-time experience as the source of change, clients often report feeling hopeful and even a little different after just one session. Our group believes deeply in the power of the therapeutic relationship. As director of our group practice, Heather's role in the initial intake process is to assess client's needs, relational style, goals, schedule and price points, as she seeks to match clients with the best practitioner for their needs. NOTE: Heather is not a weekly therapist. She focuses on intensive trauma treatment with sessions usually lasting 90 mins - 3 hours to address deep issues short term. She also completes thorough intakes to help client's effectively understand their own needs and plan a path forward with sound recommendations which may include referrals to weekly trauma therapy with other clinicians within our group.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Attention to the past is driven by how these patterns influence your life today. Our culture does not always support mental health or our general wellbeing. We provide re-acculturation to social rules based on respecting uniqueness, autonomy and care, providing corrective emotional experience, tracking internal responses and supporting clients to harness the nervous system's natural healing mechanisms to restore memory, balance and connection.

Heather is extremely insightful, compassionate and professional. I felt immediately at ease in her presence and knew that I had found the right person after my first session. I have been blown away by the impact Heather has made on my life and look forward to working with her week after week.
I have been working with Heather for the past few months, and it has truly been a transformative experience even in such a short window of time. Heather is extremely approachable, reassuring, and insightful. She uses a variety of techniques to approach different issues from different angles, which has been invaluable. I very highly recommend Heather to anyone looking for a therapist, and in fact have already recommended her to a number of people in person.

I've been seeing Heather for almost a year since I graduated from college and moved to NYC. She has a been a tremendous help and resource in helping me work through some traumatic past experiences, adjust to life after college and all the challenges the city presents. Her use of various techniques including tapping and eye movement has been particularly helpful for my anxiety. I can say without a doubt that Heather is one of the most caring, sincere and knowledgeable therapists I've worked with, and I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Heather was attentive, patient, sensitive and very knowledgeable. She started out by treating our son, who was suffering from anxiety and fear. She subsequently treated us all on an individual level and group level as a family. She led us through several trying times with expertise and complete professionalism. I have already recommended Heather to several of my peers and will continue to do so.
Heather Lortie is an exceptional therapist. Her use of different modalities somatic experiencing / emdr / tapping is very effective. Her knowledge is so current / up to date that she is on the cutting edge of psycho therapy treatment. The field has advanced so much in the last 15 years & H.L. keeps abreast of all the new information. I have been through psychotherapy before but I have never experienced the powerful & long standing changes in my behavius that I have experienced with Ms. Lortie. My entire family has benefited from her work with both me & my 9 yr old daughter . Ms. Lortie has helped us navigate through a divorce & several other changes in our family dynamic. I have recommend her to over 10 people & all who have met her feel a huge shift in their process as well.
