Jackquelin Grant, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
Dr. Jackquelin M. Grant, DBH, LMHC, is a licensed mental health counselor dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and emotional well-being. She earned her Doctor of Behavioral Health from Arizona State University and brings an integrative, compassionate, and personalized approach to therapy. Dr. Grant works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, life transitions, ADHD, stress, and feelings of being overwhelmed or “stuck.” She understands that many people appear successful and capable on the outside while quietly struggling with exhaustion, worry, self-doubt, or emotional pain. Her therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and DBT-informed strategies. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Grant works collaboratively with each client to understand their experiences, identify patterns that may no longer serve them, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, sustainable change. Above all, Dr. Grant strives to provide a warm, respectful, and judgment-free environment where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. Therapy is not simply about managing symptoms—it is an opportunity to better understand yourself, strengthen your relationships, reconnect with what matters to you, and begin creating a life that feels more fulfilling and authentically yours.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and personalized. I believe you should feel heard, respected, and comfortable being yourself in therapy—without fear of judgment. I also believe therapy should help you move forward, so our work together will be supportive while also intentional and goal-focused. During our first sessions, I’ll take time to understand what brings you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you would like to change. Together, we’ll identify patterns, explore how past experiences may be affecting your present, and develop realistic goals that feel meaningful to you. I use an integrative approach that may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and DBT-informed strategies. Because every person is different, I tailor treatment to your individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Clients can expect me to listen with compassion, ask thoughtful questions, provide honest feedback, and offer practical tools they can use outside of our sessions. At times, I may gently challenge you to look at something differently or step outside of patterns that are keeping you stuck—but always with respect and at a pace that feels manageable. Ultimately, my goal is to create a space where you can better understand yourself, develop healthier ways of coping, build confidence, and make meaningful changes that extend beyond the therapy room.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe therapy works best when it feels both supportive and purposeful. Our first session is an opportunity for me to learn about you—not just what is bringing you to therapy, but also your experiences, strengths, relationships, current challenges, and what you hope will be different as a result of our work together. We’ll begin identifying your goals and developing a treatment approach that fits your individual needs. After that, sessions are collaborative and typically begin with a check-in about how you’ve been feeling, what has happened since our last meeting, and anything you would like to focus on that day. We may explore thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationship patterns, or past experiences that are affecting your life today. I take an active approach to therapy, so I won’t simply sit back and listen. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, help you recognize patterns and connections, provide psychoeducation when helpful, and introduce practical strategies you can use in your everyday life. Depending on your needs, we may practice coping skills, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, work on communication and boundaries, or identify small, achievable steps toward your goals. At the end of a session, we’ll often reflect on what stood out, discuss what you would like to practice or consider between sessions, and identify where we may want to continue next time. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your feedback is always welcome. As your needs and goals evolve, our work together will evolve with them.
