“I’ve struggled for a long time to find a therapist who truly felt like the right fit for me. It’s not easy to find someone who both understands you and pushes you in the ways you actually need—but Jake isn’t an average therapist. From the start, Jake put me to work. He didn’t just listen—he challenged me, helped me confront things I would have otherwise avoided, and ultimately changed my perspective in ways I didn’t expect. That’s what sets him apart. If you’re serious about growing and genuinely invested in yourself, Jake will meet you there. He shows up, he cares, and he invests in his clients just as much as they invest in the process. He’s not just a great therapist—he’s a good person to have in your life.”

Getting to know Jacob (Jake) Friedman

I specialize in breaking through barriers, both personal and creative. My clients include (but is not limited to) musicians, photographers, artists, actors, writers, filmmakers, comedians, choreographers, and singers – not to mention programmers, salespeople, lawyers and entrepreneurs. What my clients have in common is they're all looking for the next step, to free themselves from what's holding them back, and turn a new page in their lives. As a creative myself, I vibrate on the same frequency as other artists and creators.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I had previously worked in show biz as an animation artist for studios like Disney and Nickelodeon. I have written a couple books and have taught some university classes over the years. I'm living proof that consistent focus on long-term goals brings big rewards in life. Whatever you personally want out of life, I am eager to help you achieve it.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Generally I'm goal-driven. I'm a believer that change only comes from growth. This requires changing habits and picking up new behaviors. This comes with carving out new neuropathways in our brains through a change in messaging. I'm a firm believer in incremental change over a consistent period of time. I did it myself, multiple times in my life. And if I can, I know anyone can.

Jacob as been my therapist for over a year and has helped me tremendously through a difficult period in my life. His help was invaluable.
I've been continually working with Jake for quite awhile now. He's been an absolute asset and an incredible help in my life and well-being. I couldn't imagine a more caring, knowledgable, and effective mental health professional to visit. Very highly recommended.
I have been working with Jake for some time now. He has helped me build the mental machinery needed to manage my emotions, and has guided me through many perceived challenges. Highly recommend for anyone struggling with general anxiety, perfectionism, high-functioning stress, etc.
I worked with Jake for two years, and do not have one single bad thing to say about him. He is funny, kind, and attentive, and was immediately adaptable to my personal needs and style of therapy. At the time I started working with Jake I was struggling terribly with guilt and self image, and by the time I moved on (to receive specialized LGBTQ-related care!) I genuinely felt as though our time together had pretty much entirely cured me of those issues. I now go through life with an arsenal of tools at my disposal thanks to his care. Jake is amazing--a real gem of a person and a consummate professional, and I couldn't recommend his services enough.
When I began working with Jake, I was a single woman in my early 30s living in NYC and hoping to build a family. I started to worry that my past relationships left me guarded and discouraged about what was possible. Working with Jake helped me better understand my relationship patterns, including my allergy to closeness and the unresolved grief I carried from past experiences. His approach is thoughtful, perceptive, and grounded, and he created a space where I felt both challenged and supported. Since we started working together, my life has changed in meaningful ways: I got married, and my husband and I are now expecting our first child. While therapy is always a collaborative process, I can say I have made some of the most lasting and meaningful progress of my life during this time. I have been in therapy for over a decade, and working with Jake stands out as one of the most effective and impactful experiences I’ve had. I’m deeply grateful for his work and would highly recommend him.
Seeing Jake has been one of the best things I've done for my wellbeing. I started seeing Jake during one of the hardest times of my life, and he has continued to provide me compassionate care, listening empathetically when I need a shoulder to cry on, but also always trying to hold me accountable to improving my own mental health. His flexibility with my difficult schedule has allowed me to remain consistent with my therapy, something I've struggled with for many years. I'm extremely lucky to have found Jake, and I couldn't recommend him more emphatically.
Jake has been instrumental in helping me grow. His guidance has played a pivotal role in improving not only my own mindset but also my romantic relationships and my connections with friends and family. What sets Jake apart is that he doesn’t just offer support—he provides practical tools and frameworks that you can actually apply in real life. Those toolkits have made a real difference for me outside of our sessions. Jake has had a genuinely positive impact on my life, and he creates a real sense of connection in his work. I strongly recommend him to anyone who is looking to make meaningful, positive changes in their life.
