Jane Davis, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi there, I'm Jane! Jane Davis, LMHC, licensed in mental health counseling. My approach is client-centered and collaborative. The focus of my therapy includes depression, anxiety, trauma--including racialized trauma--as well as borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. My approach My approach is client-centered and collaborative. Theoretical approaches I use commonly include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy; Trauma Informed Therapy; some aspects of 'parts work,' i.e., Internal Family Systems and of psychodynamic therapy. My focus I typically work with adults, starting late teens--e.g., 18 or 19--and up throughout the age spectrum. My communication style My therapeutic environment emphasizes unconditional positive regard and collaboration. Establishing a therapeutic rapport and thus a therapeutic alliance is paramount. My journey to mental healthcare My journey to become a therapist grew out of my life-long interest in psychology ever since as a child, I saw, along with my sister, a movie entitled "The Slender Thread" in which Sidney Poitier played a crisis center counselor. That planted a seed that grew throughout my life and education, including when I attained a doctorate at Stanford in Modern Thought and Literature, as well as Humanities. That period of my life established my love of working with and mentoring students in the process of transformative learning. During my career as a professor, I realized that I eventually would want to work more closely with people on their emotional growth and well-being, which led to my return to graduate school at New York University to attain a Master's in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling. My work as a therapist who believes in 'helping people help themselves' is a very meaningful aspect of my life.
