Getting to know Jia Ming (Anthony) Wu

Hi, my name is Anthony! Life can get overwhelming at times, and it may feel like no one understands the struggles you’re going through. Although I may not have experienced them myself, I’m willing to do the work and listen to your story. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from New York University, which has equipped me to create a safe and affirming space where we can go on this journey together. We’ll take one small step at a time.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have experience working with adolescents and adults on a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, life transitions and adjustments, perfectionism, work and academic stress, and much more. I grew up in an immigrant Chinese household and it has helped me understand some of the unique experiences of growing up in a different culture, balancing multiple cultures, having different values, the clashing and conflicts with family, and the constant racism.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to therapy is a collaborative relationship and is focused on addressing your specific concerns and supporting you. I utilize a variety of treatments, including evidence-based treatments like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to teach and equip you with the skills to help you heal and regain control of your life. I also incorporate creative elements, like music, into my sessions when beneficial.

Anthony is a compassionate and insightful therapist. He listens attentively and provides helpful guidance that truly makes a difference in my life
Anthony is hands down the best therapist I’ve ever had. He’s super easy to talk to, really gets me, and makes me feel comfortable every time. It’s like talking to a friend who actually knows what they’re doing. He’s helped me see things in a new light and given me tools that actually work in my day-to-day life. If you’re looking for a therapist who genuinely cares and makes a real difference, Anthony’s your guy. Highly recommend him! ?????
Jia Ming was a great listener and proved a bit about my situation. However, he seemed to lack experience in guiding and helping me through my situation. The session lacked structure and all he did was agree with everything I was saying which was not helpful in reflecting, noting, or planning how I could best get help.

Anthony helped me through one of the darkest periods of my life. Though I had lots of anxiety and doubts working with a male therapist, he proved all my presumptions wrong and more. Anthony creates a safe and reassuring environment where I was able to feel comfortable sharing my thoughts and feelings without any air of judgement. He helped work through my mess of tangled thoughts so I was more aware of my thought process and habits. Anthony supported and worked with me to develop strategies to help manage my mental well being, including providing resources I could refer to or use to strengthen my skills and ability to cope. He personalized support and strategies to help me work through my mental struggles with greater independence in my daily life. My mental well being has in a much brighter place since working with Anthony. I cannot be more appreciative for all the guidance, encouragement, and support he has given me all this time. I wouldn’t be here without him.
Anthony is understanding and nonjudgemental. He provided a safe and supportive space for me to explore my thoughts and helped guide me to be kinder to myself.
Anthony was my first therapist! Therapy is always a bit awkward and uncomfortable the first session, but Anthony was understanding and patient. We set realistic goals about what I wanted to achieve in therapy, and he sent me resources to help me understand my emotions. He communicates effectively, and starts sessions in a timely manner.
I felt I not only was being listened to, but also I was making substantial realizations about what was happening in my life. I genuinely appreciate the work and care put into ensuring I felt comfortable. The swift attention is also helpful and there were no issues with timing or insurance.
Anthony has been a game-changer in my mental health journey. His understanding of my thinking patterns is remarkable, guiding me to newfound self-awareness. He is a fantastic listener, creating a safe, judgment-free space. Punctual and reliable, our sessions were unstructured and effective. His proficiency in Cantonese adds a personal touch, making the therapeutic experience truly unique and relatable coming from an Asian background. I highly recommend Anthony for anyone seeking a compassionate and empathetic therapist.
