Jodie Leer, LMHC

Jodie Leer, LMHC

Psychotherapist
WA
My passion as a helping professional is providing a safe space for individuals to navigate the complex world of mental health. We do this by exploring life's complexities and various relationships that impact us daily. As a therapist for 16+ years, my approach to treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I've learned that therapy is not a one size fits all, so my approach has to be adaptable to meet each person's unique needs. By using an integrative approach, I combine CBT with Motivational interviewing, trauma focused CBT and other practices to help individuals understand and manage their emotions effectively. Over the years, I have worked closely with youth and young adults, helping them identify goals and manage their emotional struggles. I also know that therapy is not just talking, it's supportive in ways that provide individuals with ongoing success, such as resources, community resources, even medications if needed. This same dedication was given to adults who I served for over 5+ years, whether it be in a crisis setting, jail, hospital or outpatient clinic. My training, education and experience has allowed me the ability to tailor my approach to each person's needs. My compassion for those struggling with their emotions comes from my own family background, so when I say I understand I really do!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in providing a safe, judgement free space where individuals can explore their emotions, identify their strengths and achieve personal growth. Our first session is about getting to know you and understanding where you are and where you want to go. Therapy is a collaborative process; introductions are important, they allow us to get to know each other and explore the reasons for seeking help. This is just the beginning; there is no pressure to share everything, it takes time to build a rapport and trust in the process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

With over 16 years' experience as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma focused CBT, Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based therapies, I've supported many individuals on their mental health journey, from 13 years old to 65 and older, each phase brings its own struggles to overcome, from anxiety, depression or life's daily struggles.
