Treatment Approach and Professional Statement
Individuals are able to make positive changes in their lives. My work is with adults and young adults. Being unhappy, depressed, or anxious often arises from being stuck in patterns that stifle growth, inhibit change, and increase stress. I help clients move toward positively addressing these patterns and obstacles. It is essential that you feel heard and that your individual circumstances, concerns, and feelings are understood. Our work together will provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental place for you. I specialize in treating stress, depression, relationship problems, and self-esteem. Additionally, I work with individuals experiencing major life transitions such as divorce, grief, losses, or changes in health or work status, as well as sadness, fear, and anxiety. My experience includes working with emerging adults struggling with relationships, dating, and loneliness; the stress of young professionals, medical students/residents, and graduate students. I also treat anxiety, stress, perfectionism, and behavioral issues. Psychological testing services are also provided.
I hold a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Adler University.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Dr. Potaczek is a native Chicagoan. He came to psychology after a previous executive management career and then completed his Psy.D. (doctor of psychology) having training in settings including hospital, emergency room, substance abuse treatment centers. He has experience working with professionals, young adults, executives and graduate students.
His perspective and experience reaches out to supporting the needs of individuals undergoing various concerns, stressors and transitions.
Working from a positive psychology framework, Dr. Potaczek engages clients in a friendly and conversational manner in developing strategies and better insight into sources of anxiety, depression, OCD, uncontrollable worry, overwork and ADHD concerns.
Dr. Potaczek also focuses on needs of young and emerging adults establishing professional identity and establishing work and career focus. Dr. Potaczek also focuses on concerns clients have with dating, relationships and attachment and/or anxiety concerns connected to establishing loving relationships and engagement with others.
Dr. Potaczek also provides treatment for early career professional stress, depression and anxiety. He also specializes in the concerns of graduate students, law and medical students and medical residents, balancing rigors of training with self-care, family and relationships. Dr. Potaczek also works with individuals in medicine, the medical professions, law, finance and tech in addressing the stressors of these professions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
During initial meeting and evaluation, Dr. Potaczek will work collaboratively with you to identify your primary concerns and problems you are experiencing. Dr. Potaczek will also explore your personal strengths. His approach is practical and solution oriented in working with his clients to understand any negative patterns that may be inhibiting patient individual growth and works with his clients toward the reduction of stress and emotional pain. Increasing your self-awareness and helping discover ways to change patterns leads to healing and a more fulfilling life.
