Judi Cohen, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi! My name is Judi Cohen, LCSWR. I am a licensed clinical social worker in New York State with a Master's in Social Work from Springfield College. I have 30 years of clinical experience. My focus includes anxiety, panic disorders, depression, eating disorders, trauma, grief, and loss. I have worked in a variety of settings, including home-based family prevention, outpatient children's mental health, a community mental health center, and providing psychotherapy in a primary medical health center. Each of these places taught me something I did not know before and made me the therapist I am today. My approach I am committed to delivering personalized, quality care. I don't provide a ?one size fits all? approach. I am client-centered and also look beneath the surface at what might be driving feelings and behavior. I use CBT, ego psychology, solution-focused therapy, and internal family systems. It has been my experience that many clients respond positively to one or several of these approaches. I have been described as a supportive and honest therapist. My focus I prefer working with adults aged 18 and up who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem struggles, disability issues, chronic pain, and LGBTQ issues. All of these are challenging life events where we may not know the best way to solve them on our own. I believe it is part of my focus to help clients with these challenges. My communication style I live in a small rural area where everyone knows everybody, so having intact boundaries is very important. This does not mean I am immune to painful life events, and I have been challenged at times by the very things my clients have faced. I have an appropriate sense of humor, which my clients seem to like. I have discussed books and our pets with clients. In spite of this, I am very mindful of the client-therapist relationship and boundaries.
