“Dr. Schindel is the best! I came to her with some knee pain from running that's been going on for years. For the first time in a very long time I'm running pain free and I can't express how much that means to me. Without PT & Dr. Schindel I wouldn't be running as well as I am today! PT Works! ”

About Dr. Julia Schindel

At House of Physical Therapy, we treat active professionals who use exercise as their stress relief. We understand the fear of being told to "rest," and that drives our treatment philosophy. Our average patient reports less pain within the first three sessions. Next, we target the underlying cause to prevent the pain from returning, then we stay with you as you transition back to the gym with full confidence! A note from Dr. Julia – My pursuit to become a physical therapist began at 5 years old. I told my mom if I did not start gymnastics right now, I would not make it to the Olympics. Spoiler alert: I did not go to the Olympics, but I did compete from childhood through NCAA Division 1 at the University of Pittsburgh. I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Pittsburgh, which deepened my understanding of the human body and rehabilitation. I have always been amazed at what the body is capable of doing in the sport of gymnastics. What I learned was that behind the beauty of gymnastics are blood, sweat, and tears, as well as broken bones, torn ligaments, muscle strains, and concussions. Throughout my gymnastics career, I experienced it all, including a career-ending ACL injury. With each injury came months of rehabilitation. I struggled to find a provider who understood my goals and the fact that I spent more time walking on my hands than my feet. This became my biggest inspiration in pursuing a career in physical therapy: to truly understand each person's individualized goals and what it will take for them to get back to everything they want to do. Through my experience thus far as a physical therapist, I have gained extensive knowledge in the treatment of all orthopedic conditions as well as a variety of neurologic and cardiopulmonary diagnoses. In my free time, you can find me hiking and snowboarding in the Adirondacks. I look forward to finding what inspires you to move and helping you achieve your goals. – Dr. Julia Schindel

My daughter is a gymnast and had surgery on her upper arm and had a high ankle sprain. She wanted to get back to her sport. Dr.Julia knew so much about the sport of gymnastics and helped her get back fully to her sport with such a smooth transition. On top of that they built such a strong bond with each visit!
Dr. Schindel is the best! I came to her with some knee pain from running that's been going on for years. For the first time in a very long time I'm running pain free and I can't express how much that means to me. Without PT & Dr. Schindel I wouldn't be running as well as I am today! PT Works!
Julia is amazing. She is so knowledgable, listens to your body, and comes up with customized strategies to feel better, and tools so you know what to do when things come up.
Dr. Julia is fantastic to work with. I went to go see her while I was training for a marathon and developed ankle pain that I thought was going to stop me from the running the marathon. Not only did she treat me so I could run the marathon, but also identified the root causes and work with me to resolve that. Highly recommend Julia and House of PT!
Seeing Julia was such a life-changer for me! After being stuck for years with a recurring running injury, Julia was the first person to really take the time to make sure that I understood my injury, treatment plan, and long-term prevention. She was incredibly kind, knowledgable, and understanding. I felt so supported and cared for every step of the way. I would strongly recommend Julia to anyone on the hunt for a physical therapist!
Julia was very friendly and fun during every visit. She is also extremely knowledgeable and caring. You’re in great hands with Julia!
Visited with Sharp neck/shoulder pain. Dr. Schindel quickly identified the problem (poor posture at my desk job) and gave me exercises, stretches and tips to limit future pain. Her diagnosis was correct and the pain subsided in a few weeks. Dr. Schindel is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about her field, there’s no other person I’d trust for physical therapy treatments and advice. Run, dont walk, to Dr. Schindel
After a severe skiing accident, I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Julia before I got in with my orthopedist. Her diagnosis and treatment were perfect. She is extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Being a health care professional myself, I can say with confidence that Dr. Julia is an incredible choice for one’s physical therapy needs.
I suffered from terrible nerve pain radiating from my lower back down my leg, making it painful to walk and impossible to sleep. A friend suggested I see Julia. I’m so grateful I did! She assessed me and determined the best way to treat my pain. Within days of working with Julia, my pain lessened enough I could sleep. Within a few weeks of targeted exercises, my pain disappeared. I am back to all my activities thanks to Julia!
She really listened to my problems at the appointment, and provided workouts to practice at home that really helped mitigate the pain in my back
Look no further - Dr. Julia is the absolute best. After I had ankle surgery, the goal of getting back to my extremely active lifestyle seemed impossible. Dr. Julia was there for me every step of the way with her extremely knowledgeable, professional, friendly, caring, and empathetic practice. She had me back to my life before I knew it! I would recommend her to anyone and everyone.
I would highly recommend Julia to anyone looking for a PT that really takes the time to understand you and your injury. I really felt heard which I often don’t get at most medical practitioners. 10/10 wild recommend!
I have been having knee pain while running for the past 6 months. Julia helped me to better understand my pain and write me a plan to fix it!
I was dealing with back pain for over 6 months and after just a few sessions with Julia I already saw a huge improvement. I would recommend Julia to anyone dealing with back pain!
Julia at House of PT is great! I had chronic neck and back pain as well as frequent headaches which have all gotten significantly better since starting physical therapy with her. My posture has also improved dramatically. She's very knowledgeable and gives thoughtful feedback that really works, both in helping prevent and resolve pain.
Dr. Julia is the best physical therapist I have ever seen. I have suffered symptoms from an injury that took place over 6 years ago, and after seeing several other physical therapists before finding Dr. Julia, I was starting to lose hope about being able to recover from my injury. Dr. Julia's attentiveness, knowledge, experience, genuine curiosity, and holistic approach to to treatment helped me overcome symptoms that I had been chronically struggling with. I cannot recommend her enough!
Very kind and professional. Julia took care to make sure I was comfortable and asked questions about my condition before suggesting a treatment plan. I look forward to further visits.
Dr. Julia is one of the best physical therapists in New York. I started improving within days of seeing her. She helped me deal with an injury and return to normal activity. She is very knowledge, diligent, and patient. She has a holistic approach to wellness. She always gave me extremely useful advice for pain management and injury recovery. I highly recommend her.
Julia is incredibly attentive. She expertly discussed her approaches, recommendations, and each exercise so I was aware of what I was doing and why. She also spent time making sure that I was doing each exercise correctly before I left.
I tore my meniscus earlier this summer. I'm an active person who plays a lot of different sports (basketball, weight lifting, rock climbing, running, skiing). I was worried I wouldn't be able to do everything again. Julia got me fixed up good as new. She built a regiment that built strength around all the different kinds of demands I put on my knee. I learned a lot along the way, and feel empowered to keep myself healthy going forward. Thanks HOPT and special thanks to Julia!
Julia is the best physical therapist I’ve worked with. I’ve seen many PTs and what sets Julia apart is her style of care. She is extremely knowledgeable, detail-oriented, thoughtful, and patient. Julia has also sent me research and readings that give helpful context to my experiences. Working with her is reassuring and validating.
Recovery from traumatic brain injury is a slow, arduous and difficult process. The right profession care makes all of the difference between giving up and thriving and living a happy and fulfilling new lifestyle. I have worked with Julia Scheindel for the past few years and she has truly had a measurable impact on my personal growth physically, mentally and emotionally. Julia’s knowledge of the intricacies of physical therapy is obvious but what means even more to me is the way she encourages me and pushes me to be my best. It is what keeps me coming back. I am confident that I will reach the milestones she and I have put in place. I would recommend anyone who wants peak results to seek Julia at House Of Therapy.
I started seeing Julia after experiencing knee pain while running. While I was her patient, Julia provided superb care every single appointment! Julia took the time to really listen to my symptoms and helped teach me about what was causing my pain. Julia consistently advocated for me with other doctors and my insurance company. In addition to her dedication to her patients, Julia is extremely easy to talk to and even when she prescribed challenging exercises during our appointments, it was enjoyable! I highly recommend Julia as a physical therapist - with Julia's support I was able to resolve my knee pain and become a stronger athlete overall!
I started working with Julia after having several years of back pain and I'm so grateful I did. Julia took plenty of time in the initial consultation to understand my history and my pain holistically. Julia immediately made a huge impact for me, and I worked with her for the better part of a whole year. I am now 100% pain-free and able to do all the things I love, like working out and playing sports again. There were many times over the course of my years of pain that I thought I might never get to full strength ever again, so I am not exaggerating when I say Julia changed my life. In addition to being extremely knowledgeable and attentive, Julia is an easy person to converse and laugh with, and she is extremely committed to her craft. I frequently spoke with her about ways she continued to learn and grow. I am sure that Julia will be one of the top in the field for a very long time to come. Thank you, Julia. It is great to have my athletic life back!!!
Julia is amazing. Incredibly competent, and helped me heal multiple injuries. She is so thorough and is truly a problem solver. She is very diligent, friendly, flexible and all around great. I strongly recommend her services.
Julia displayed a high level of professionalism and dedicated time to genuinely understand my concerns. She provided me with tailored exercises to address my back pain, and in just one week, I was able to resume my regular exercise regimen!
Julia is an incredible PT. She completed an extremely thorough hands-on evaluation. She assessed my movement patterns, range of motion, and helped to determine what movements would trigger my back pain. She listened thoroughly to my complaints about my back pain and helped problem solve from the very beginning. Julia made sure to go through our long-term goals - as well as how we can work to improve my pain right away. She took into account my level of physical activity and even assessed specific movements I would do in a gym setting in order to make sure I had good body mechanics. Julia gave me a great home exercise program that she updated each visit. She made sure that is was challenging and not repetitive/boring which they can often become! I would strongly recommend Julia as anybody's physical therapist if you are motivated to returning back to activities pain-free, stronger, and feeling better. Thank you for everything, Julia!!
