Getting to know Dr. Julie Spooner

In her capacity as a psychologist with over two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Spooner can help you with a broad range of issues including developing your business or career, depression, stress, anxiety, the need for support in achieving your goals, relationship conflicts, the search for a mate, and children's behavioral and emotional challenges. Dr. Spooner earned her PhD in Psychology from CUNY The Graduate Center and holds a Bachelor's degree from Yale University. In addition to her clinical work, she has taught on three college campuses, including City College, Medgar Evers College, and Borough of Manhattan Community College. She also served as the Clinical Director at Edwin Gould Services for Children. Here is some client feedback: “...Since the session I have felt reflective, extremely reflective. I can't say I've been able to tackle all that came through just yet. However, the vividness Dr. Spooner provided during my session keeps my senses constantly reminded of the experience, which keeps me in line with my soul's purpose. I also came out of the experience understanding and loving myself more deeply. I am definitely more in touch with spirit just knowing THAT much more is on board with me. I believe someone who is truly looking to expand their understanding of who they are and what they walk with spiritually would greatly benefit from this work. It also helps you to learn about your natural innate energies that are constantly with you and how best these energies can be used.” – India B., Brooklyn, age 28

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Spooner sees you in your highest form, doing what you came here to do, and she provides practices for you to be able to achieve this. For those who are inclined, she can incorporate a spirit-based focus, supporting you within your unique belief system. Here is some additional client feedback: "Before the (session), I did not feel so powerful and my sense of peace was not at the level that I knew it should be. I knew it was because of some negative energies. But after the (session) I felt freer, that I had tapped into a deeper aspect of me leading me to feel more powerful, confident, at greater peace. I also have more confidence regarding my mission in life... After the experience, for several hours I felt physically tired, so I slept a lot and drank lots of water with lemon (as recommended during the [session]). But after resting, I began to sense a lightness in my heart that I probably have not felt in my life. Mentally, I feel like anything is possible. That is because I am in touch with the (power) within, and I know that I can accomplish anything. Emotionally, I feel more balanced and joyful. Spiritually, I feel more confident. I am able to connect with the light... a lot easier than before. The space in which the (session) was done was comfortable and intimate… Dr. Spooner was very patient and her insights about me as a child were correct.” -E.C., Brooklyn, NY, age 26

What is your typical process for working with clients?

This in-depth client feedback gives a sense of Dr. Spooner's process: "From a young age I've been an avid seeker of knowledge... I always knew that there was something I could learn that would really boost my understanding of this world and this thing we call life. Something that would increase my experience as a human being, something that could help me connect with the...world on a personal level. But I could never seem to find someone I could trust along the way. I met Dr. Spooner at a conference in New York and was drawn to buy her book. After finishing the book I realized Dr. Spooner was clearly the person I was going to trust with this (process)... I set up an appointment with her not knowing what to expect but remained willing. When the session began I wasn't sure what she was going to tell me but kept an open mind to knowing whatever was said was for my highest interest. What impressed me right away was how quickly she could reach a state of non-resistance and relaxation to tune in... She gave me a description of my natural character that I was resisting for so long. She gave me descriptions of methods I should utilize to help me tune to my natural energy.... But the most intriguing part was that based on my guidance I was not given answers to certain questions that I wouldn't need in my life right now. There are some things we are meant to discover on our own once we focus our energy appropriately. I went home that day feeling lighter. As if a burden had been erased from my perception. I looked for it for a while, wondering what happened, but have come to realize that transformation is a gift. I can honestly still feel a new state of calm presence and focus to this day. If you need a way to speak to and connect with the unknown that you know is present within your life, you don't have to become worthy. You just have to take action and find one who connects with (universal wisdom) on a daily basis. One who makes that their life's direction.

I scheduled an appointment through Zoc Doc - the doctor didn’t send me information on how to video with her. I called the office and left a message and my call was never returned. I’m sure she is a good doctor, but there is a breakdown in communication.

Dr. Spooner brings an incredibly warm, wise, and safe energy to our sessions. I appreciate the incorporation of spiritual teachings, it works really well for me as someone who does not come from a western background. I also appreciate the somatic approach she takes; the in-session guided meditations have immensely helped me embody the lessons I had previously understood on an intellectual level after years of therapy, but had struggled to move past. I find myself practicing those on my own outside of sessions, which has strengthened my relationship with myself.
