Karen Rich, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi there, I'm Karen! I am Karen Rich, a licensed clinical social worker with expertise in trauma, codependency, and relational struggles. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Yeshiva University and a PhD in Social Welfare from the State University of New York, Albany. I primarily use interpersonal and psychodynamic approaches, with some experiential methods. My approach I tailor my approach to each individual. I generally start with psychodynamic, experiential, humanistic, and interpersonal approaches; as treatment evolves, I may incorporate CBT, eye movement and reprocessing, or DBT. My focus I work with people struggling with relationship issues, including parent-child dynamics. Common issues include codependency, narcissistic partners, infidelity, jealousy, loss, and the impact of childhood trauma on current relationships. My communication style I am courteous but accessible, often using humor. I aim to make clients comfortable and avoid being a distant observer, while respecting professional boundaries. My journey to therapy I love seeing people evolve. My greatest satisfaction is watching clients peel away negative beliefs and emerge as their true selves. Clients have many layers, and it’s a rewarding challenge to uncover the true nature of problems. Advanced training has refined my skills to be more effective. My goals for you Goals tend to evolve. I ask clients what they see as the problem, and we focus on that after some history taking. My first session with you In the first session, I want to hear about your current struggles and what has helped before. Have you had therapists, and how were those relationships? What aspects of yourself or your environment are you looking to change?
