Getting to know Lara Ostergaard

I have a warm, interactive approach, using my 20 years experience as a psychotherapist to understand what brings you to therapy, whether it is emotional pain, anxiety, depression, struggling with relationships or your career. I believe that talking is beneficial, and being understood can be healing. Beyond that, we can work together to find a path forward, and to deal with obstacles.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am committed to being a reliable person and clinician. It is natural to feel anxious or nervous about talking about oneself with a new person, so planning to meet once or twice as a consultation is a good idea. If you feel comfortable, we can continue meeting.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For individuals, we can meet for 45 minutes once weekly, talk about what is troubling you and talk about what you have understood about yourself, and your wish for the therapy. Once I have listened, I can offer my thoughts and possibly offer new ways of thinking or approaching. For couples, we have the option of either meeting for 45 or 90 minutes every week or every other week. We can talk about what you'd like to accomplish for our meetings, and talk about what each of you understand about the issues. Then we can discuss what would have to happen in order for each of you to feel more successful and satisfied within the relationship.
