Laurie Harrier, LP

Psychologist
TX
Hi there, I'm Laurie! I advocate for their clients to be educated and informed so they can take charge of their needs after therapy is completed. I believe in a client's capability to apply what is discussed in the session outside of the sessions to ensure progress. My focus I have extensive experience with autism and co-morbid disorders including AD/HD, depression, anxiety, IDD, and LD. I work with children, teens, and young adults, as well as parents and couples to support skill generalization. I also work with twice-exceptional, gifted populations, and those with TBIs and speech deficits. My approach I use an eclectic style, drawing from CBT, EMDR, behavioral, choice theory, and solution-focused strategies to aid in the therapeutic process and forward movement. I tailor my approach to what will best serve your unique needs and goals. My communication style I am an up-front therapist who will question and ask for clarifications. I expect you to work outside sessions on what we discuss. Therapy isn't meant to be ongoing long-term; the need may ebb and flow as circumstances change. Many clients stop once they have a better handle on their skills and return when they need assistance. My journey to mental healthcare I believe everyone has the power to control their destiny and the tools surrounding them to use. It's often helpful to have someone point that out and help you see what you already have or show you the pathway to gain the tools. I bring my experience as a teacher and coach into therapy sessions. My goals for you I am upfront about goals and have clients revisit them often. Sessions are focused on those goals, and I expect you to actively reflect on them. I see sessions as a time to actively engage and intentionally move you forward toward your desired goals, not as friendship-style conversations.
