Getting to know Dr. Liz Buhai-Jacobus

Are you struggling in your relationships with those you care about? Do you doubt or question yourself when talking to family or friends? This can lead to feeling anxious, depressed, and lacking a sense of control in your life. These overwhelming feelings may occur particularly if you have grown up in a dysfunctional family, having an alcoholic, mentally ill, or abusive family member. I'd like to help. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness to address problematic thinking and behavior, and a psychodynamic approach to explore how the past impacts the present. I am an active therapist who will offer tools and techniques for you to use from the very first session. I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Forest Institute and hold a Master’s degree in Community Mental Health. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, including the Clinical Psychology Society. I have been a licensed psychologist in Illinois since 1992, practicing in DuPage and Cook County. I have a great appreciation for local history and architecture and enjoy capturing memories through scrapbooking. I have a daughter and other family members who have struggled with ADHD. My extended family has dealt with elder care and dementia; fertility issues and adoption; depression, anxiety, and family discord; as well as cancer and death. These life experiences all contribute to making me the person and therapist I have become.
