Getting to know Lucia Perez-Kleine

My work is driven by the core belief that people can change. My goal is to help you have the kind of experiences, interactions, and intimate relationships you want in your life so that you can feel connected, seen, and valued. A psychotherapist since 2006, I am a licensed mental health counselor and art therapist who specializes in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship conflicts. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling and a Master's in Art Therapy, both from New York University. In addition to inpatient psychiatry work experience, I have advanced postgraduate institute training in trauma, EMDR, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I utilize cognitive behavioral techniques in my work with clients along with traditional verbal psychotherapy to gain insight and improve distressing symptoms and relationship struggles. I also welcome integrating various forms of art making and mindfulness techniques to help my clients more deeply understand their emotional experiences and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

What should a new client know about working with you?

After years of study and experience working with clients struggling with a variety of distressing symptoms, I have found that old wounds from past trauma often reopen in present day life experiences. With a nonjudgmental approach, I help my clients sort out what happened then and what is happening now. We’ll talk about how you feel about it and I’ll listen closely and empathically to what you both say and don't say. After that, we can work together to figure out the next steps to set boundaries and express what you need in a way that others can hear.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Through a nonjudgmental, empathic, and collaborative approach, I seek to understand you deeply and individualize our work by finding what is most effective for you given your unique history, culture, needs, and circumstances. I strongly believe that, with the support of an impartial and caring therapist, you are capable of making the changes needed to improve your life, as I have seen so in my work time after time. Brene Brown wrote, "Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” Congratulations on taking the first steps in your journey of self-reflection and personal growth. I look forward to meeting you to see if we would make a good fit, discuss your concerns and needs, and answer any questions you may have.

Lucia is an empathetic and insightful therapist. She helped me form healthier relationships and work through loss and grief. I highly recommend her.
Lucia is wonderful and so helpful! She's a great listener and gave me the tools and language to understand what I was going through to help me move forward and heal. So thankful for her!
I was a patient of Lucia's for 2 years and had an amazing experience. I had never seen a therapist before and had some trepidation, but Lucia is an incredibly active listener and adept at asking the right questions. Our sessions allowed me to open up, reflect, and come to self-realizations that helped me grow as a person and improve my mental health. I would strongly recommend Lucia to anyone!
I am so grateful to be working with Lucia. From the get-go, I have felt a unique warmth from her and a consistent feeling of genuine comfort. At the same time, I have found that she (gently and productively, of course) encourages me to open up in ways I have trained myself to avoid, and she helps me to examine my experiences from perspectives I otherwise wouldn't. I started seeing her at a big transition point in my life, and even if I spend chunks of time just blabbing about my day to day stresses, our sessions have become a very important part of my healing and motivational progression. I look forward to growing more with Lucia, and I would highly recommend her!
I worked with Lucia for individual therapy for over two years and it was a truly transformative experience. Lucia provided a warm and safe environment to really feel comfortable delving into difficult topics. Lucia finds the right balance between being supportive and also challenging core beliefs that need to be challenged. I’m deeply thankful and appreciative for Lucia and the growth that I’ve had because of our work together.
Lucia has helped me so much. I went to her initially to help me with some interpersonal communication challenges. Over time, I came to better understand why I operate the way I do, what situations are triggering and how to recognize and change my default reactions. Its been really beneficial to my personal and professional relationships. I have also tried out EMDR therapy sessions with Lucia which we have used to process childhood trauma that shaped my default behaviors. The insights and relief Ive gotten from these sessions has been profound.
I've been working with Lucia for nearly two years now and it has changed my life. She is patient, understanding, and incredibly insightful. I wish I had started sooner and I cannot recommend her enough!
I have been working with Lucia for around 5 years now and I have really benefited from it. In the past, I have felt like therapists were judging me, but have never felt this way when working with her, and she has even made a point to tell me that she is not judging me (which really helped). She offers great advice, and after working together for so long, I believe that she knows/understands me really well and therefore can offer catered advice to my needs and my circumstances. She is warm, friendly, kind, and above all a great therapist. I would highly highly recommend!
I have been a client of Lucia Perez Klein for a little over two years. Before I started having sessions with her, I was an emotional reck. I had severe anxiety issues. I was so undecisive with what was going on in my life. It was very hard to cope with work and my personal life. But each session I got stronger mentally and I started seeing life for what it was and not what my mind was believing. She has helped me tremendously. I am able to socialize again. Also I am able to do the things that make me happy. It is still a work in progress but I believe with time I will be back to my old self. I will refer Lucia to anyone that needs a great therapist. who makes time for her client and will help you with your issues.
I've been seeing Lucia for years now and she is the best therapist I've ever worked with! I've struggled with finding someone who validates my feelings while also giving me the feedback I need to hear, and who gives me concrete advice on how to manage my depression and anxiety. She is so warm and kind and nurturing, and you can tell she really cares about her patients. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a therapist!
Lucia is a wonderful advocate/coach and I'm grateful for our work together. She is naturally patient and thoughtful- always fully engaged in listening. She empathetically offers new perspectives and helps me reach new understandings of myself and helps me achieve my personal development goals.
Lucia is an incredibly thoughtful, patient, kind, and flexible therapist. She consistently arrives to our meetings on time, makes it clear that she hears and understands me, and I really feel that she wants this process to work for me. I feel lucky to have connected with Lucia and to be one of her patients.
