Many of the people I work with are highly capable, driven, and successful in important areas of their lives, yet still find themselves struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, or relationship challenges. I'm Lynn El-Roeiy (she/her), a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in New York. I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, addiction, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are accomplished and driven, yet hold themselves to standards they would never apply to anyone else. Together, we look at the assumptions, relational dynamics, and long-standing coping strategies that may be shaping their experience. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves and create meaningful, sustainable change. With couples, I focus on recurring patterns around communication, conflict, trust, emotional disconnection, and intimacy, helping partners develop more effective ways of understanding and relating to one another. I also hold specialized training in addiction and substance-use treatment. My approach integrates CBT, DBT, ACT, Psychodynamic and Relational Therapy, and the Gottman Method, tailoring treatment to each client's needs. Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than five years working in studio art and design, which continues to inform my creativity and problem-solving in sessions. My understanding of grief and life transitions has also been shaped by losing both of my parents before the age of 30, an experience that informs my work with clients navigating loss, adversity, and change. Clients often describe my style as warm, relaxed, and collaborative. I strive to create a space where difficult topics feel less isolating and where seriousness is balanced with room for lightness and connection.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is collaborative, and the pace is set by you. In our initial sessions, we focus on getting to know each other - what's brought you in, what you've already tried, and what would feel like meaningful progress. Early sessions are simply about understanding your experience, not diagnosing or prescribing. From there, my approach adapts to what will actually help. For anxiety and perfectionism, we may work with cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based tools alongside deeper exploration of the patterns underneath. For couples, we focus on the recurring dynamics that show up around communication, conflict, and emotional connection. For clients navigating substance use, I draw on evidence-based and harm-reduction approaches. Throughout, my role is to help you notice what may be operating outside your awareness and to support sustainable, self-directed change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I begin by taking time to understand your history, your current concerns, and the relationships and contexts shaping your day-to-day experience. Rather than moving quickly toward solutions, I believe useful change starts with a clearer picture of what's actually going on. From there, we develop a working understanding of the patterns - emotional, behavioral, and relational - that may be contributing to what brought you in. Sessions integrate exploration and application: some time is spent on insight, some on practical skills, and the balance shifts as our work evolves. I check in regularly on what feels helpful and adjust the approach accordingly. My aim is to hold space where you can be honest - including about the parts that feel complicated to name and to help you move toward change that is meaningful, sustainable, and yours.
