Getting to know Madeline Santiago

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. I'm a licensed social worker who began my career as a musician. Seventeen years ago, while working in the Department of Education, I discovered my true calling. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary, which has deepened my commitment to supporting adolescents in fast-paced environments. Working closely with youth in this city has shown me the acute challenges they face and the vital importance of cultivating social-emotional norms and acknowledging individual struggles. I believe that aiding in self-discovery and self-empowerment is just the beginning of our journeys through life. My hope is to build a bond that fosters unique trust between myself and the person I'm sitting with, so that when it is their time to move on, they can carry their new knowledge forward to help others.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My nature is laid back and I try to exude that feeling throughout our time together. I'm open, non-judgmental, and genuinely want to hear what you have to say. My therapy style is a relaxed one where we both learn and enjoy the journey together. You can expect me to be open with you, and to share some of myself if it applies to your situation.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me would be us getting to know each other. I enjoy establishing a connection before delving into the situation at hand. My desire is that you would find your time with me a very comfortable open one where you leave feeling refreshed and wanting to return.

Madeline was professional and caring. It felt like she really cared and wanted the best for me.
I was to do a virtual session on 9/25 I was really having a melt down ready to commit self mutilation was awaiting the link put the phone down and totally forgot about the session. I apologized as I really needed a listening ear, fast forward to today 10/2 and it’s 5:18pm as I’m writing this and nothing from the therapist; not a call not a invite link just simply MIA. Smh Whelp back to square one!
