Getting to know Marley Dove

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. With deep respect for the complexity of each person's lived experience, I approach therapy through a trauma-informed, feminist, and social justice-oriented lens. My work is rooted in curiosity, creativity, psychoeducation, and collaboration - with ample space for humor, messiness, and what's real. I integrate Parts Work from IFS, somatic and Ayurvedic-informed techniques, and art-based interventions, drawing from my background as a certified yoga teacher and my ongoing focus on trauma, PTSD, and complex trauma - particularly as it shows up in women's lives and bodies. I'm especially attuned to how systems of power and oppression shape our internal and external experiences. I warmly welcome individuals navigating trauma, identity, self-esteem, burnout, anxiety, depression, family and relational dynamics, and communication challenges. I also support those unpacking societal messages around gender, self-image, and emotional expression. My aim is to help you reconnect with your own voice, build self-trust, and feel more at home in your body. It's okay to show up exactly as you are - no fixing, no pretending. Together, we'll work toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and self-compassion while cultivating your capacity to hold difficult feelings. Humor and creativity are always welcome in our work, because healing isn't just about insight - it is also very much about finding moments of relief, expression, and joy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Be so for real. You don’t need to have it all figured out before showing up. It’s okay to come exactly as you are, whether you feel ready, messy, unsure, or somewhere in between. I strive to create a space that’s honest, grounded, and compassionate - a space where your voice matters and your story is met with genuine respect. I believe therapy isn’t about “fixing” you; it’s about supporting you as you deepen your relationship with yourself. Humor, playfulness, and creativity are not only allowed but encouraged. If crocheting, drawing, or other creative practices help you feel more at ease, bring em' on in. I’m on your team and rooting for your growth. My approach is grounded in feminist theory and social justice values, which means we take a collaborative stance that both honors your lived experience and challenges the systems that shape it. New clients should know that therapy with me is a space to be seen, heard, and accepted - not rushed or forced into a mold. Together, we’ll focus on cultivating self-awareness, resilience, and the ability to hold difficult feelings with care. Please note: I do not provide psychiatry services (medication) and am unable to accept UnitedHealthcare Medicaid insurance plans at this time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll start by getting to know you - your story, your values, your struggles, and your hopes. In our early sessions, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy and begin identifying patterns, parts of you that need attention, and areas where you’d like to feel more agency, relief, or ease. I take a collaborative, client-led approach. That means I won’t push an agenda or assume I know what’s best for you. Instead, we’ll build a trusting relationship where you can explore at your own pace. I integrate Parts Work (IFS), somatic practices, psychoeducation, and creative tools depending on your needs and interests. Humor, honesty, and experimentation are all welcome in the room. As we continue, our work may include building insight, cultivating nervous system awareness, and developing emotional tools to support your growth both inside and outside of sessions. My goal isn’t to “fix” you, but to walk alongside you as you learn to hold your experiences with compassion and build resilience. Over time, the process becomes less about symptom reduction alone and more about reconnecting with your strengths, your voice, and a sense of belonging within yourself and the world around you.

I’ve been seeing Marley for almost two years and I keep going because I’m still finding better and better versions of myself. She has this way of really hearing what I’m saying and then helping me see things in a totally different light, when needed. It’s like she takes all my messy thoughts and makes them make sense. I always leave our sessions feeling like I’ve got this.
I’ve only had a few sessions, but I can already tell Marley is the right therapist for me. Marley is very smart and very easy to talk to. I started seeing her because I was overwhelmed with family stuff and work stress, and she’s been great at helping me sort through it. She’s patient and kind but also challenges me in a way that’s really helpful.
I've been in therapy many times before, put Marley actually gets it & is a real person. I felt like I could be myself right away, & I have leg. It made more progress w/ her in 4 months than I did in years w/ my last therapist.
As a woman, I am grateful for her perspective, knowledge, & genuine empathy. She has made me feel less alone and angry in this patriarchal & divided world we live in. She is excellent at reminding me of my strengths and power even when it feels like I have none. Couldn't recommend more highly.
I feel like Marley actually cares and knows me… she actually listens too, she remembers my friends and family member names and random things and stories ive told about them.. she really listens and makes me think about things different... I tell her I wish I had her brain ... I was scared to talk about things before and felt alone and now I like to talk about things with her... she really cares and helps!!
I was dealing with a tough breakup and feeling really low, and she helped me not only get through it but also rebuild my confidence after years of narcissistic abuse. She's really warm and funny, which makes it easier to talk about difficult things. Highly recommend.
She's kind, smart, and genuinely cares about her clients. I went to her because I was struggling with burnout and body image issues and she helped me see how much pressure I was putting on myself. I appreciate her honesty and sense of humor. It makes everything feel less heavy.
Marley is kind and wise beyond her years. In just a few months I am better mentally and socially because of our sessions and am less weighed down by my past. Great experience, just wish they were longer sessions.
What I really appreciate about Marley is how real she is. She doesn't talk in vague therapy language that goes over your head - she meets you where you are. She's really good at making me feel like I'm not crazy for the things I'm feeling, even when I'm spiraling. I didn't feel judged for feeling stuck where I was at the time, and she gave me practical ways to handle situations without feeling like I was just avoiding them, which I tend to do. I will say that she will challenge you - but probably in just the way you need in that moment. She's honest - and will help you see things from new perspectives. I came to her feeling completely overwhelmed with family and relationship stress, and she helped me figure out ways to navigate it without losing myself in the process. Her advice always feels practical and doable, not just theoretical.
She's not the kind of therapist who just sits there and nods, she's engaged and really makes you feel like she's in it with you.
Amazing!!
