Mary Lockwood believes each individual has the capacity for change. Each person is “the” expert on his or her own life and already has the answers. She provides a safe environment for individuals to begin trusting themselves to explore the current barriers negatively affecting their ability to achieve a more balanced life. Mary sincerely believes that beginning or returning to counseling is one of the most important decisions a person can make to improve overall mental, emotional, and physical health. Mary holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University and has extensive experience working with individuals who have experienced symptoms of anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, chronic trauma, PTSD, and substance abuse. She is compassionate about working collaboratively with each individual to achieve a sense of empowerment, well-being, and balance. For the past 15 years, Mary has gained experience in a wide variety of mental health settings—community mental health, inpatient and outpatient alcohol and drug treatment facilities, residential adolescent hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, and several private counseling practices. Her eclectic approach involves, but is not limited to, various psychotherapeutic modalities, including Psychoeducation, CBT, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness-based, Client-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, and ACT. Mary is passionate about continuing her training to meet today’s complex challenges, including the completion of virtual Telehealth training. She believes in the transformative power of psychotherapy and in each individual’s ability to change and heal. Mary works closely with each person during this process of reconnection and rebalancing. She sincerely understands how much courage it takes to step into this unknown arena and will support you every step of the way.

Very excited to work more with Dr. Lockwood. She seems to be the most knowledgeable psychologist I’ve worked with in the way that works best for me. I like that it’s therapy that you ask for. Less talk therapy, more getting to the root to heal. I know it’ll be harder before it’s easier but I’m ready to finally have this relief soon and she seems to want to walk me through it every step of the way and that’s important as a therapist.
