Psychotherapist
NY
Hi there, I'm Mary! My name is Mary J. Sant'Eufemia, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Work Psychotherapist. I share my time between two locales, which is why I work as a teletherapist. I work with adults and couples. Because I have an arsenal of techniques at my disposal, my approach is eclectic. It all depends on the individual, the issues being presented, and the approaches the client responds to best toward resolving their issues. As a result, it’s important for me to be open and flexible in terms of the most effective approaches. My approach My long career in this field has taken me from traditional psychoanalysis to today’s varied short-term modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness, to name a few. My focus Most of the adults I work with present issues involving anxiety, depression, panic attacks, relationship or marital issues, grief, ADHD, and transitions, to name a few. I focus on utilizing everyone’s strengths, providing them with new tools, communication skills, and positive outlooks in order to resolve their issues. My communication style I am an active listener who provides a calm and trusting environment so clients feel comfortable expressing themselves, even aspects they find difficult to share. Over the years, I have found that the more a client feels comfortable expressing themselves fully and honestly, the greater the progress. My journey to mental healthcare In my earlier years as a Social Worker working in agencies, I initially thought I wanted to climb the administrative ladder. But in doing so, I learned that often compromises have to be made for the agency’s interest, not the client’s. It became clear I was more aligned with the needs of clients and the delivery of care. After earning my Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College, I went on to become certified as a Psychotherapist.
