Hi, my name is Michelle O'Neil. I am a licensed professional counselor passionate about helping others find purpose, healing, and joy for their lives. I have experience working with clients of all ages, but especially adolescents, teens, and young adults. In therapy, I see myself as a helper and cheerleader on your journey toward your goals.
My approach
I utilize an integrated theoretical model when providing therapy, drawing heavily from acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, internal family systems, and synergetic play therapy. Having a variety of skills and modalities allows me to tailor my approach to clients of many ages and needs.
My focus
I have worked with clients with conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotion regulation, and neurodivergence. In my work with teens and young adults I have some experience with substance abuse and eating disorders, but no specialized certifications in these areas.
My communication style
I believe that clients will find me to be warm and inviting, adding humor, personal experiences, and creative approaches into my work. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings, and where we can work together to achieve their goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
After working for nearly a decade in my first career as a registered nurse, I realized that I wanted to be able to offer more than physical healing. Having had my own journey of healing through mental health struggles that began when I was an adolescent, I knew the power of working with a therapist. I felt called to go back to school to pursue my graduate degree in counseling so I could provide more holistic help to those who are hurting in my community and even across the state through virtual counseling.
