“I never thought I would ever do therapy. I had the all-to-common attitude that many of us do, that therapy is for other people, not for me. If this sounds like you, or you’re unsure where to begin, you should start with Molly. I started seeing her after a life-change that had me unsure of who I was and what I wanted in life. She led me to understand how I’m wired and how to soften the pain of my “third rail” issues. Molly listened to me and believed in me as I learned how to take care of myself, give myself grace, and connect with people I can trust and depend on. That’s light years away from where I was when we started. I would not be in this better place without Molly’s guidance. I can never thank her enough, nor recommend her more highly. ”

Getting to know Molly Swersky

I am a warm and nonjudgmental therapist with more than 15 years of experience helping people with anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, family stress and problems at work. My primary goal is to identify and address your needs, provide meaningful understanding and insight and subsequently improve your health and well-being. I use a personalized, compassionate approach to create opportunities for growth and believe that mutual trust is essential to high-quality treatment. Often described as someone who “gets it”, clients regularly comment on the ease they feel in my office. Whether we meet one time or many times, I will think about you holistically and as a unique individual. Every meeting will be thought of as an opportunity to learn more. Working collaboratively, we will find new ways of thinking about, understanding and creating change in your life. I earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology and social work from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and master’s degrees in social work and public health from the University of California at Los Angeles. I completed two years of post-master’s psychoanalytic psychotherapy clinical training and am a registered licensed clinical social worker in New York State.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my office, you’re a person. Not a person with a problem. I consider the broad goal of treatment — not only to relieve suffering — but to live a more satisfying life by understanding yourself or your partner more thoroughly. We will work together to understand and move toward creating something different.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First we will schedule a consultation to see if we are a good fit. Frequency of sessions will be determined post consultation. I practice talk therapy but am certainly not a therapist who is a blank screen and only nods her head.

Molly is very qualified and professional. Since I was new to therapy, she often had to ask me to not ask her questions. She helped me through a difficult time and I am grateful.
Molly helped us navigate a very difficult time, get back to the foundations of strong communication, love and understanding in our relationship. The mediation was fairly and delicately managed in a way that made us feel safe coming to the sessions to work through our challenges. It is a difficult field and Molly has truly mastered helping couples reconnect, and maintain connection with a new toolbox of skills to navigate the times in life where things get difficult and you need to come back towards each other and reset. We are immensely grateful for her and helping us rebuild foundations of trust and understanding. Thank you Molly - we are so sincerely grateful for you.
Molly was very helpful in helping us appropriately communicate during tough times. She listened to us at the beginning of each session, provided her thoughts on the situation and helped us work through the crises of the day. Over the time we spent together, my spouse and I became much more comfortable with working through these difficult matters, and we appreciate Molly's time and effort in making that happen.
Molly speaks with authenticity and honesty, it made me feel like i had a friend, beyond a therapist. She was insightful and intuitively drilled down on key issues that, at first i thought not important, but were important discoveries to be had. There is a sense of familiarity with Molly - she somehow knew and understood my experiences even if she never walked in my shoes.
I felt really comfortable talking to Molly from the start. She asked me thought provoking questions and her comments and guidance were efficient for my development. I grew emotionally in my year working with her and I recommend her!
I trust Molly and did from the start. She helped me through a divorce. She made me feel comfortable and safe as I worked through what was going on with my relationship, its end and what I needed to move forward. I was impressed that she remembered details and followed the threads of our sessions without taking notes as we talked. She’s an attentive and compassionate presence. I learned something every single session. I really don’t know what I’d have done without her. I recommend Molly to friends and strangers without hesitation.
Our visits with Molly was excellent. We attended for pre-martial counseling and she was great at developing a "curriculum" of topics for us to discuss in our weekly sessions. Molly was thoughtful, insightful, patient, calm and a great listener. She remains objective but still dives into the unique details of the clients individualism. We highly recommend Molly for couples!
Very helpful to vent.
My visits have been great. I immediately felt comfortable w/Molly and appreciate more of her insights as she has gotten to know me. Her perspectives are subtle but have helped me go deeper in the work I am doing. She is very prompt.
