Nicholas Bennett, LCP

Psychologist
CA
Hi there, I'm Nicholas! I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California, holding a PsyD from California Southern University. I am an eclectic therapist using aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, the Gottman Method, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My approach In therapy, I am skilled at identifying and challenging clients' negative thought patterns so that we can explore more productive ways of thinking and, together, develop disputes to common negative cognitions. I am a fan of attachment theory and often use attachment styles to inform approaches to interpersonal relationships. In couples therapy, I take the Gottman approach and focus heavily on communication styles and identifying and expressing needs. For those who have experienced trauma, I use various exposure-type therapies including exposure and response prevention, EMDR, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. My focus I work with a diverse population of clientele but specialize in LGBTQ+ clients, Veterans, and first responders. My communication style I strive to create a compassionate, affirming space while still challenging negative thinking. I like to bring a bit of humor to the session, which I feel is often a great tool for rapport building. My journey to mental healthcare I initially pursued business as a career, earning an MBA while serving as an active-duty servicemember in the U.S. Army. Later in my military career, I was assigned an additional duty as a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate. I quickly realized that I had a passion for advocacy and decided to further my education in the social and behavioral sciences field. My goals for you Initially, therapy goals are set to prioritize the best place to begin to provide the largest amount of relief in the shortest time possible for the client. As therapy progresses, I like to expand these goals as they relate to family, social, career, and educational endeavors.
