Getting to know Nicola Burg

Hello, Today, you are one step closer to a new you?feeling empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being. Are you feeling disconnected, struggling to find your place in life, or finding it hopeless to connect with friends in your community or at work? Not feeling understood by your family and friends can leave you anxious and make managing daily tasks feel impossible. If you are a parent, worries about how your kids are doing socially or academically can overwhelm you, and differing opinions with your partner may only add to the stress. At times, work can feel overwhelming, making it difficult to set boundaries and say no. Anxiety, perfectionism, difficulty trusting others, and depression may be limiting your ability to feel confident and content with your life, work, family, and friends. Therapy can help you cope with these feelings and release the nagging sense that you are responsible for everyone's struggles. It can offer freedom from the ?shoulds? and ?should nots,? helping you center yourself so you can focus on what matters most and connect with others in a satisfying, meaningful way. My goal as your therapist is to help you uncover what makes you feel grounded and connected. While we can't always change difficult past situations, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, I will support you in understanding and changing long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you and your relationships back from greater satisfaction. With a Master's in Social Work from Fordham University and training at the Institute for Mental Health in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, I provide a safe space for you to feel understood and heard. This space can lead to lasting change through discovering new ways to express and cope with your emotions and ending negative cycles in relationships with yourself, family, and friends.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer an open, safe place to allow for feelings and thoughts to be processed. Having a knowledgeable guide is the first step to becoming your own guide. This is my goal in your therapy. Once I begin to understand your unique self and struggles I will help you to use life tools to expand and develop strategies that will help you overcome the overwhelming anxiety, as well as sadness that is affecting your life and relationships. The goal is not to eliminate the feelings but to use them to show us what needs to be examined and processed and then to learn how we can act of those feelings to best navigate our lives.
