Getting to know Nitasha Kang

I'm Nitasha Kang, LCAT, a psychotherapist based in Brooklyn, committed to providing an inclusive and compassionate space for healing and growth. My clinical approach is rooted in a transformative, person-centered methodology that integrates talk therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, and art therapy. I work with clients of all ages, including neurodivergent individuals, couples, and families, addressing challenges such as anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, depression, and discrimination. As an art therapist and talk therapist, I help clients explore and improve their self-esteem, identity, and sense of belonging. Many come to therapy seeking to understand and embrace their authentic selves, overcome challenges related to self-worth, or navigate shifting identities. I'm passionate about helping individuals embrace self-love, develop resilience, and foster positive change, ultimately guiding them toward a deeper understanding of their identities and creating meaningful connections with themselves and others. My values around social justice and trauma awareness are crucial in my work. I believe every person deserves access to compassionate care that acknowledges the impact of societal factors such as discrimination, bias, and trauma. I apply these values by integrating cultural and narrative therapies into my work, helping clients explore their stories and the systems that have shaped their experiences. Healing cannot occur in a vacuum, and addressing the intersectionality of each individual's experience is essential in fostering true transformation. Drawing on my Master's in Counseling and Art Therapy from Drexel University and my background in art therapy, I integrate cultural and narrative therapies informed by social justice and trauma awareness. My goal is to create a safe, inclusive environment where clients can grow, heal, and reclaim their sense of self.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a solution-focused and person-centered approach to therapy, aiming to meet clients where they are and guide them towards their goals. I enjoy finding creative ways to help individuals heal, whether through talk therapy, art, or other forms of self-expression. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel empowered to explore their experiences and work towards growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I aim to create a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore their needs, desires, and fears while assessing their goals. Using a person-centered and solution-focused approach, I tailor therapy to each individual. Creative techniques like art therapy or mindfulness may be incorporated, depending on what best supports the client's healing process.
