“Richard has been extremely helpful assisting me with navigating various challenges in my midlife -- career, family, and health. He is a great listener and is very thoughtful with tailoring his recommendations on ways to approach the challenges, and how to be better prepared to handle future challenges. He clearly takes great care in who he works with. He takes great notes and effectively incorporates specific and relevant facts we discussed several months ago without prompt. I'd recommend Richard to anyone looking for a psychotherapist.”

Getting to know Dr. Richard Schaedle

I help individuals who seek self-knowledge and want to find meaning in the context of their lives. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship, or career issues, I will work with you to increase resilience, achieve personal growth, and deepen your connection with those around you. If you feel overwhelmed or unsure of what to do with your life, we can address the obstacles in your path and discover new avenues to pursue. By increasing your awareness and reducing negative thoughts, you will find new alternatives to achieve greater meaning and happiness. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, we will begin to address cognitive distortions that interfere with your ability to find meaning and happiness. We will also focus on your underlying emotions and how to access and channel them appropriately to effectively communicate your needs and desires. By asking the right questions, we will clarify your life goals and next steps. Therapy will help you practice emotional hygiene, address feelings of loneliness, change your responses to failure, and reduce negative thinking patterns. Together, we will heal your psychological wounds and build emotional resilience so you can achieve your life goals. I hold a Doctor of Social Welfare from City University of New York, Hunter College, a Master's in Social Welfare from Columbia University, and a Bachelor's degree from New York University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The most important part of our work together will be to develop a strong therapeutic relationship which is the foundation for all therapeutic change. I have extensive experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, career issues and individuals with serious mental illness. In addition, I have experience working with clients who are trying to heal from their addictions and/or reduce their dependence on substances that interfere with their relationships and life goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our initial session will focus on what brings you to therapy and your goals for our work together. Following this I will ask you to complete several questionnaires that will give us a baseline reading on your mood, level of anxiety, childhood experiences and your drug and alcohol use history. As we sort through this information and prioritize your goals we will discuss what interventions might make the most sense for you in the context of your goals.

Dr. Rich is an experienced clinician who uses his training to help people reach their goals. Dr. Rich helped me improve my communication skills and unpack difficult experiences from my past. I appreciate the recommended readings, his care, and expertise!
Dr. Schaedle is great at what he does — he’s able to ask the right, thought provoking questions and offer advice / methods of dealing with various situations. He’s well versed in family dynamics, relationships, and high stress corporate jobs based in NYC. 10/10 recommend!

Dr Schaedle was integral in helping me overcome challenges in my thinking and reacting. He also helped me reframe certain ideas and gain confidence in the areas we worked on. Easy to schedule with him and willing to work with scheduling changes. I definitely recommend his practice.
Dr. Schaedle was incredibly helpful when I sought out therapy for severe anxiety. I have had experiences in the past with therapists utilizing the “tough love” approach, which I don’t respond well to, but he did not do that. He is empathetic and has a calm demeanor. He gives useful advice and I always left sessions feeling relieved or empowered!
Amazing experience

I began my therapy journey with Richard for about a year, and I'm so glad I did. He was impressively quick to identify + address detrimental thought patterns and pain points of mine. Via CBT-based interventions under his guidance, I was really able to lay my mental and emotional foundation for the healing that followed in the years to come.
