Getting to know Ryan McGuire

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. I believe that therapy is a special relationship built on trust, honesty, and the ability to create a safe space to explore those difficult areas of your life to create the desired changes you would like to see. I would like to help guide you on this authentic journey together of self-discovery, change, and growth by exploring your past experiences that have helped shape you into the unique person you are today and navigating the road ahead to where you would like to be. We often have experiences we wish to forget-painful memories where we did not feel like we were the author of our own stories. Let's navigate your life's story thus far, the narrative you've come to know, and work towards developing the future chapters of your life with you as the author. I have a wide range of clinical experience as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor working with children, teens, families, adults, and couples. I utilize motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, CBT, trauma-focused, and interpersonal approaches to therapy. I've worked with depression, anxiety, trauma, interpersonal conflicts, life stressors, anger issues, severe and persistent mental illness, and various mental health-related issues. Change is hard and a process. As your therapist, I will challenge you from a supportive, empathic, and understanding lens to achieve the changes you would like to see in your life. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Baruch College.

I have been working with Ryan for over 1 year. He is an excellent therapist. He is highly empathic, understanding and knowledgeable. Ryan brings together his ability to be compassionate with a willingness to hold me accountable to the goals and strategies we have put together.
Ryan is incredibly insightful and intuitive with his feedback. He has a diverse toolbox of skills which have been helpful. Ryan's genuine in his interactions, it's clear to me he is invested and cares.
Ryan is an amazing professional with extensive experience and training. I appreciate the insightful questions and discussions while working with him. He provided guidance and support while also challenging and pushing me towards my goals. I would highly recommend him as your individual therapist!
Ryan was warm, friendly, and asked a lot of insightful questions during our first session. He made me feel extremely comfortable and allowed me to share in my own time.
Mr. McGuire is a consumate professional. He made me feel immediately comfortable and was welcoming and kind. As a therapist, he has a gentle manner that made it very easy to communicate my needs. I have been to clinics in the past where I felt brushed off, as if the therapist had better things to do. Mr. McGuire helped me more in one session than my last therapist did in 6 months! He was able to help me see things I was doing to sabotage myself and is now helping me reverse those patterns. Highly recommended.
