Getting to know Samantha Otero

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. My hope as a therapist is to help clients feel seen and understood as the entire person they know to be true for themselves. I have worked with an array of clients to co-create an empathic, intentional, and mindful space where we can move through difficult life transitions. As a social worker, I will work alongside you to ensure you feel safe and empowered to make changes and bravely heal. I have supported clients who have experienced PTSD, domestic violence, sexual abuse/assault, grief and bereavement, families going through adoption and fertility struggles, OCD, pre- and postpartum challenges, LGBTQIA issues, and couples work. All of my clinical approaches are aligned with your needs and wants for yourself. I have a specialty in inner-child healing, trauma-focused psychotherapy, and grief. I was born and raised in lower Manhattan but have worked with clients across the entirety of NYC. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from New York University. My goal is to bring mental health services to all communities and create an experience of collective healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapeutic style is easy-going and extremely supportive. Although clinical interventions are essential for healing, I believe a client must first feel comfortable and safe in our therapeutic space. In working with me, you can expect to move through difficult emotions while also learning who you are. I will work to ensure you feel heard and seen while also learning to create boundaries, practice accountability, and gain empowerment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions will look different week to week. I ask all clients to create goals alongside me to ensure they feel their own personal needs are being met. What you want and need your sessions to be, is exactly what they will be. Once goals are set, we begin healing the experiences in life that may be causing conflict or creating difficulty in our healing journey.
