About Serena N. Chryssikos

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN APPOINTMENT REQUEST AND NO APPOINTMENTS ARE CONFIRMED UNTIL DONE SO BY PROFESSIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY DIRECTLY** Dr. Serena Chryssikos attended Binghamton University in New York for her undergraduate degree, and then continued on to Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Prior to and while attending physical therapy school, she worked as a trainer and also taught group exercise classes. There were multiple ground-breaking moments in Dr. Chryssikos’s life that inspired her to pursue a career in physical therapy. Most notably, when her younger sister underwent a highly invasive scoliosis surgery, and witnessing her go from barely able to walk to becoming a full-fledged varsity athlete, all thanks to her amazing physical therapist. Several years later, on a more personal level, she found herself totally defeated and facing surgery in a physical therapy office after sustaining a debilitating knee injury -- the result of a 17-year soccer career. Thanks to the amazing PTs and PTAs she worked with, she found herself not only back on the soccer field, but participating in Olympic lifting, competing in physique events and completing Spartan races. She was told that surgery was the only option, managed to avoid surgery; it was the physical therapists who helped her return to her prior level of function and advance even further. Physical therapy taught her that there is life after injury. These events all contributed to her decision to pursue her doctorate in physical therapy. Dr. Chryssikos incorporates her interest in sports, her experience with strength and conditioning training and her love of Pilates in sessions with patients. “At the end of the day, there is nothing more gratifying than hearing from my patients that I have helped them in some way. I enjoy being relatable, and I love it when my patients can find some commonality while working with me. My young adult athletes especially motivate me, because they remind me of myself when I sat in that physical therapy office more than 15 years ago, and this in and of itself inspires me to keep doing what I do.” Dr. Chryssikos is a self-proclaimed foodie. When she isn’t treating patients or working out, she enjoys following New York sports teams, star-gazing, relaxing on the beach and traveling all over the globe with her husband.
