Getting to know Dr. Shannon Casey

I specialize in helping individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma achieve the happier and more fulfilling lives they desire. These challenges are often complicated by lack of motivation, trouble experiencing pleasure, self-deprecating thoughts, interpersonal conflicts, and feeling as if you don't have direction in your life. Some clients know what they want but face obstacles that prevent them from moving forward. Others are searching for change and want to create meaning in their lives. Wherever you are, I provide support and compassion as we work toward your goals and aspirations. I hold a PsyD in Psychology from California Southern University and a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Massachusetts Global, which inform my approach to care. Please note, I do not provide opinions for emotional support animals, disability, or fitness to return to work or other activities for clients who are not well-established at the time of the request. Additionally, I do not provide couples therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During the first sessions I get to know you, your background, and your desires for the future. Therapy is tailored to your preferences, whether you like to troubleshoot emerging issues, tackle long-standing problems, or a combination of both. I gravitate towards Positive Psychology to examine what is going well with clients instead of merely focusing on what is going wrong. With this focus, we will identify strengths that you currently possess and find ways to use these talents to improve areas that you may view as weaknesses. Through this process you will learn to recognize and challenge negative thoughts about yourself and the world that may be holding you back.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
