“I've been seeing Sofia for a couple of years now, and she's fantastic. She has been a huge help to me during some very difficult times. Sometimes we just talk, sometimes we do DBT or EMDR, depending on what I need at a given time. She has a no-nonsense vibe, but is also very empathetic and caring. ”

Getting to know Sofia Crowe

I have been a clinical therapist for 21 years. I graduated from the University of Maryland Social Work program in 2003. I have enjoyed wide-ranging training and employment in many arenas, including as a supervisor for a county-wide suicide hotline, in adolescent residential treatment, intensive outpatient and in-home therapy. I have worked in diverse settings, such as Johns Hopkins Methadone/Suboxone program and for an AZ Native Tribal Nation. I have trained in many therapeutic modalities, including DBT with Marsha Linehan, dual-diagnosis treatment, Imago and communication focused couples therapy, mediation training, structural and/or brief solution-focused family therapy, CBT, behavioral activation, schema therapy, motivational enhancement, meditation and mindfulness. Areas of expertise include ADHD, parenting and family communication, working with young adulthood issues post-COVID, depression, anxiety, bipolar and other affective disorders, addiction, co-occurring issues and a variety of couples issues. I also treat substance use and abuse, including behavioral addictions such as eating and gambling. More recently, I have expanded into treatment of high functioning autism. I am experienced in child trauma, adult PTSD and adjustment disorders, including psychosocial stress. I am skilled in working with chronic pain, disability issues, and crisis management. However, my primary focus starts with you as a client—successful treatment is more than any diagnosis or approach! My perspective is flexible and person-centered. I partner to meet your needs and identify areas for change with you. My primary goal as a therapist is to work with you on ensuring life is worthwhile and worth living. I look forward to meeting you. This was my first appointment with Sofia, and I knew right away that I chose the right therapist to talk with. She is friendly, kind and caring, and put me at ease from the beginning. I also really appreciate that she gave me responses and feedback, not having me do all of the talking. My laptop shut off and disconnected us after about 2 minutes into our meeting and wouldn't charge. She called my cell, was extremely understanding, and we were able to finish the appointment. I would definitely recommend her!
