Getting to know Sophia Campbell Burrell

Hi, I’m Sophia Campbell Burrell, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with Empower Psychotherapy. I have over 17 years of experience supporting individuals through life’s challenges. I earned my Master of Social Work from Widener University and have worked across a variety of settings including integrated healthcare, community behavioral health, crisis intervention, and child welfare services. Throughout my career, I’ve helped people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My goal is to create a supportive and respectful space where you feel comfortable exploring your experiences and working toward meaningful change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect a collaborative and supportive approach. I believe therapy works best when you feel heard, respected, and involved in the process. My style is person-centered and strengths-based, meaning we focus not only on the challenges you're facing but also on the strengths you already have. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where we can openly explore thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be impacting your well-being. Together, we’ll work on building practical coping skills and strategies that help you feel more confident navigating life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work usually begins with an initial session where I take time to understand your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. This helps us develop a clear path forward together. From there, sessions focus on increasing self-awareness, identifying patterns that may be contributing to stress or emotional distress, and developing practical skills to support emotional regulation and healthier decision-making. I draw from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT-informed strategies, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care. My goal is to help you gain insight, strengthen coping strategies, and make meaningful, sustainable changes in your life.

I love that the sessions feel like a genuine, intelligent conversation rather than a one sided interrogation. She is incredibly easy to talk to but still maintains a high level of professional insight. It’s the perfect balance of relatable and expert.
Sophia has been a game-changer for how I manage high stress situations. I’ve gained so much perspective on balancing professional demands with personal well being, and I feel a lot more grounded in my decision-making now than I did a few months ago.
