Getting to know Soumya Gupta

Disclaimer: Providers at Canino Psychotherapy focus on therapy services and do not prescribe medication, as they are not psychiatrists. As a Mental Health Counselor with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, I strive to provide compassionate, evidence-based counseling to individuals navigating life's challenges. Utilizing approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychoanalysis, and mindfulness techniques, I tailor each session to meet the unique needs of my clients. I am committed to fostering a safe and non-judgmental environment, working with clients to explore past or present issues and develop effective coping skills. My practice encompasses work with diverse populations, addressing concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, sexual behavioral issues, and addictions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I maintain a warm and interactive therapeutic approach with my clients, encouraging open and honest communication. My goal is to create a safe space where you feel heard, respected, and supported as we work together to understand your experiences and build healthier coping strategies. I’ll tailor our sessions to your unique needs, drawing from evidence-based methods like CBT, psychoanalysis, and mindfulness. *Please kindly note that we do not provide psychiatry services (medication) and are unable to accept UnitedHealthcare Medicaid insurance plans at this time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, we’ll focus on getting to know you—your background, current challenges, and goals for therapy. From there, sessions are typically structured but still allow space for open conversation, reflection, and tools tailored to your needs. We may use techniques like role-playing, psychoeducation, or homework to support your progress between sessions.
