Dr. Sweta Venkataramanan, PsyD

Psychologist
NY
I’m a psychologist who believes therapy should be honest, collaborative, and actually helpful in your real life — not just a place to vent once a week. My approach is active and direct. I work with clients to understand patterns, make sense of what they’re feeling, and develop practical strategies that create meaningful change. I frequently work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, burnout, grief, and stress. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves, and therapy becomes a space to slow down, gain clarity, and start moving forward again. My style is warm but real — I’ll support you, challenge unhelpful patterns, and help you build tools that work outside of the therapy room. If you’re looking for therapy that feels grounded, thoughtful, and genuinely collaborative, I aim to create a space where you can speak openly, feel understood, and start making the changes you’ve been wanting in your life.

Getting to know Dr. Sweta Venkataramanan

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in real-life change. I aim to create a space where you can be open about what’s going on without feeling judged or rushed. My style is warm but direct — I’m engaged in the process and work actively with clients rather than staying silent or distant. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Together, we work to understand patterns, explore what’s beneath the surface, and develop practical strategies that support long-term emotional health. I often work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, stress, life transitions, and grief, and I tailor the work to each person’s goals and needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is focused on getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what’s currently feeling difficult, your history, and what you hope might change or improve. This helps us identify goals and begin developing a direction for the work together. From there, therapy becomes an ongoing collaborative process. Sessions often involve exploring current experiences, identifying patterns in thoughts or relationships, building insight, and practicing tools that can help you manage emotions, improve communication, and navigate challenges more effectively. Over time, the goal is not only to work through the immediate concerns that brought you to therapy, but also to help you build insight and skills that support lasting emotional well-being.
